I caught the interview (well, the first half) last night. I've not watched whatever video clip the DM has, but the comment was made in a larger, slightly rambling, context of doing something instinctively. For Tonya (or any other athlete) the practicing of the jumps, that repetition, made it so ingrained in her that when it came time to do it in competition, it was natural and instinctive. Similarly, the idea that white lives matter is such an obvious statement to him that wearing a shirt with those words on it was instinctive to him. The other part of his explanation expands on this a bit further, as he was talking about his dad, who had sent him a text after he wore the shirt, which basically said "it's obvious." For me, listening to those comments, as he was explaining it, the lyrics of the Sunday School song "Jesus Loves the Little Children" popped into my head - "red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight..." - this came also from him talking about his Christian faith, which seems to be very strong and real to him.

I don't think he is mentally ill at all. I just think his worldview is something that a LOT of people in very liberal Hollywood (and around here) have a hard time grasping. They don't like black conservatives who do not succumb to the liberal group think. There was a lot more to unpack in the interview, but this thread should probably be moved to PI for that.

It’s not just Hollywood liberals that find him troubling. I don’t think people find him difficult to understand based on his politics as his mental illness allegations isn’t stemming from his politics but a long history of incoherent speech and unpredictable, at times scary, bullying, borderline violent, and tumultuous behavior. Black conservatism or even Hollywood conservatism isn’t anything new or difficult to comprehend.

Sadly, we all seem to have front row seats to the manic phases of untreated bi-polar illness. I agree with those who say this is not all illness and must reflect some privately held views, but it sure seems his loss of sense of propriety, self restraint, understanding of future consequences, etc., etc. has devastating results. And deeper and deeper it goes as he injures relationships, kills businesses, loses respect of those around him .... Kanye has now publicly provided information on his children's school as well as publicly issued blanket threats - beyond foolish!! It is hard to have too much sympathy for Kim K., but in this case I do, and feel for his children.

Agree with some of the posts above about mental illness and behaviour.
There are thousands, likely millions of people with mental illness, including bipolar disorder that manage their disease and also don’t happen to be racists and media click bait opportunistic assholes salivating to stay relevant.

Ye/ Kanye was and always has been an arrogant, selfish, misogynistic and arrogant jerk.

I canceled him long ago before his diagnosis because of his selfish disdain for the feelings of others.

It’s pathetic that I even deign to comment on his click bait, media whore behaviour.

But here I am.

I wish I could ignore him and hope to hell the media lets me by stopping to pay any attention to him.
