How to send a "DM"?

I see the mention of a "DM" as a way of sending a message to a specific user. How does one send a "DM"?

To contact a member by name from a post, click on the username of the person you wish to contact. This will bring up a mini-profile. You should see a Start Conversation link at the bottom of the mini-profile box.
