Left out of the article: sometimes there are tryouts where lots of people show up and skate with each other in various combinations. Usually pairs don't form during the weekend but afterward, people will arrange for longer tryouts with one or two of the people they skated with during the weekend. USFS used to sponsor these in Colorado Springs but I think they stopped. I went to one that was just put together by a skating club and some coaches once. (Not as a skater. )
