Since we know the WAG committee is just going on "vibes" and "feels", I've decided to see what we have using just the one highest score - here are the options that would score over 175:

1) Biles, Carey, Chiles, Lee, Rivera - 175.800
2) Biles, Carey, Chiles, Lee, Sumanasekera - 175.650
3) Biles, Carey, Chiles, Lee, Roberson - 175.625
4t) Biles, Chiles, Lee, Lincoln, Rivera - 175.500
4t) Biles, Carey, Chiles, Lee, Wong - 175.500
6) Biles, Carey, Chiles, Lee, Lincoln - 175.475
7) Biles, Chiles, Lee, Roberson, Wong - 175.400
8) Biles, Chiles, Lee, Lincoln, Sumanasekera - 175.375
9) Biles, Carey, Lee, Lincoln, Rivera - 175.325
10) Biles, Chiles, Lee, Sumanasekera, Wong - 175.300
11) Biles, Carey, Lee, Rivera, Wong - 175.100
12t) Biles, Carey, Lee, Rivera, Sumanasekera - 175.075
12t) Biles, Chiles, Lee, Rivera, Wong - 175.075

lol so basically they can take any one of Wong, Rivera, Roberson, Lincoln, or Sumanasekera and it won't make a lot of difference. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes down tonight.

I would think of all those options, Tiana Sumanasekera has the artistic aesthetic that international judges would reward the most along with the 4 Olympic veterans, so I would go with team 2.

You know, I finished watching Night 1. WOGA gymnasts really have a distinct look. Idk whether they select very strongly for a certain body type, but when I see Skye, Kaliyah, Hezly, it's very striking how much they look alike in terms of physique.

For Tiana, Josc, Leanne and Hezly, whoever can keep their nerves in check best may come out of this as the one who gets the final spot. Got to be a tough mental battle going from knowing you’re probably trying for alternate at best to having a real chance within a couple of days.

If everyone does well, my heart says Tiana, but my head says it will be Hezly.

First let me say that I really dislike 5-4-3 or any format that does not allow every gymnast compete on every apparatus (well 6-5-4 was better but still).
The selection for the US women's team is complicated by the fact that there is no way they will now allow the defending all around champion a chance to compete all around in prelims, especially when she is scoring and placing so well. Also good luck not letting Chiles compete all around in prelims either. A few of the "highest scoring teams" are never going to happen, unless they pull Lee from competing all around (which I doubt will happen), or unless the fifth gymnast competes on an apparatus in team final only (which while it has happened before is highly unusual and highly unlikely).
There really isn't a strong bar and beam gymnast in this field to compliment Jade's vault and floor. They might just take the next highest all around gymnast and call it a day.

So, comparing highest score with current three-night average.
Crunching numbers... Here are the 5-person combinations that score 172.5+ (using the average of the 3 scores from Champs x2 + Trials Night 1)

1) 173.092 - Biles, Chiles, Lee, Lincoln, Sumanasekera
2) 173.075 - Biles, Carey, Chiles, Lee, Sumanasekera
3) 173.067 - Biles, Chiles, Lee, Lincoln, Rivera
4) 173.050 - Biles, Carey, Chiles, Lee, Rivera
5) 173.025 - Biles, Carey, Lee, Lincoln, Rivera
6) 172.967 - Biles, Carey, Jones, Lee, Lincoln
7) 172.908 - Biles, Carey, Chiles, Lee, Lincoln
8) 172.783 - Biles, Carey, Chiles, Lee, Roberson
9) 172.700 - Biles, Chiles, Jones, Lee, Lincoln
10) 172.683 - Biles, Carey, Chiles, Jones, Lee
11) 172.625 - Biles, Carey, Lee, Rivera, Sumanasekera

In not one of those configurations does Wong figure or bring a decent enough score to be usable.

Jade can boost her contribution with another 14+ floor score on Sunday and I can't really see a scenario where she's left off the team given her strength is floor and vault and Kaliya's score from both of those is just from tonight since she didn't compete either at Championships - so Kaliya's average could drop her behind Jade when it's all said and done.

I also really don't see a scenario where Shilese petitions her way onto this team unless she is healthy enough to compete at least UB and BB on Sunday. Tiana is boosted because her BB and FX score matters in most of the scenarios (but that could be slightly negated once Kaliya has a different FX average score).

Right now - Biles, Chiles & Lee are locked in and Carey is all but locked. Last spot is up for grabs and I can see Sumanasekera nabbing it thanks to those BB and FX scores helping where the team would be weakest.

If Josc goes clean, though, and hits beam I think it's her.

As far as the equipment contract goes, they were desperate for $$.

I’m sure the sponsorship thing is likely the reason for not using the Olympic equipment. However I do recall that in the past they have done things like use a gymnova floor with an AAI logo slapped on it. I want to say it was 2008 they did that, as I remember reason an article about it. Weird they couldn’t do that now.

Understanding this shouldn't play into it at all... I can't get into Henzly because she always looks so serious/slightly terrified, and that's the only personality I've seen from her at this point.

Yes, but bars isn't where Leanne can contribute the most to the team (or at least more than Hezly).
Yep. But, like I said, we don't know what the selection team is really looking for. Being solid on your event where you contribute the most in math theory? Being able to do well on all four in case there are injuries to others? Lots of experience showing you can deliver under pressure? Including a youngster to go with all the older ones so that there is an experienced gymnast on the team in the future?
