The consensus is that there will be an early spring, but the doyen of groundhogs, the maître des marmottes, Punxsutawney Phil, begs to differ. And New Jersey's own Milltown Mel died before he could make his own prediction. :(

We don't actually have groundhogs in my neck of the woods, but if we did, they would have emerged to a sunny, windy day, said "Harumph!" and gone back to get some shuteye.

60 yesterday, pouring rain today, then ice/sleet, then 4-6 inches of snow Thursday. When you live in Ohio, you can't count on groundhogs. Last April 21 (I took a picture) there's about 2-3 inches of heavy new snow on the grass and trees. The grass was new and green so it's holding it up like icing on a cake.

And the 3 books I reserved last week in preparation for the snow were not in yesterday. They are today, of course. I won't get there till Saturday. I do have 5 books here though.

The weather is too chaotic for even a groundhog to predict. In former days when we rented a coachhouse, a mother groundhog and her bevy of babies lived under the backporch. Nothing could persuade her to move to alternate housing. She was very very savvy, but even this furry matriarch could not have predicted weather in the 21st century. I am currently taking a break from shoveling so I don't have a heart attack.
