She was elected today after the previous board chair and the CEO resigned earlier this month. The Huffington Post got some leaked emails which showed the chair and CEO using very derogatory language toward former contestants, and plotting to ruin the pageant coaching business run by a former winner.

Three other former winners were also appointed to the board - one of them is Kate Shindle, who along with Carlson has been a vocal critic of how the pageant has been run under the (now former) CEO. This could be interesting....
