Finlandia Trophy 2025- Women’s Free Skate “ Let’s Finnish Where We Splatted”

Boy you and I have never been more of the moral center of this group then we are right now.

Also, was so baffling to me is that back at the first stop and angers Ami got close to 80 points or 80 points for her short program with no ultra c elements where Amber puts them in consistently and can barely even get a 75, her short program had no errors in Finlandia and even with the triple axel on the short She’s not getting 78–80? Her short program scores are still too low as others have mentioned.
I thought the same thing about Ami and her scores with a triple axel v Amber. And Ami has a style that is still juniorish unlike Amber. I’m still  that Mone’s double axels and other technical issues weren’t even reviewed at Skate Canada when especially the axels were clearly wonky from the naked eye. She corrected those axels here. She and her team knew they were lucky calls. Hopefully the calling and judging will be better the rest of the season.

This program is a great vehicle for Mone and really shows off her strengths. Her skating is looking better & better as the season progresses. Thrilled for her win here.

Amber's 3A looks like one of her more consistent jumps so I wonder if she would ever considering replacing one of the "easier" triples with a second 3A. I never got into this long program - it just feels like a platform for her to skate through her elements cleanly and calmly. Compared with Mone's it seems quite empty. Amber's another skater who I feel has a more compelling short program that I would have preferred to have expanded into a free.

So excited for Rino to get her first GP medal! Beautiful classic skating.

I thought Amber should have been further ahead in the short. But maybe it wouldn't have made a difference here.

I wish that some of the top women would work on their spins so that they're never getting lower than L4. Maybe it's not worth it, points-wise, to go hard on the spins. But I love a great spin.

You know, I realize that the classic story of Romeo & Juliet is set in Renaissance Italy, but when you're skating to the Baz Luhrmann movie soundtrack, maybe at least recognize that the setting has been moved to 1990s southern California and design a costume that fits THAT setting instead?
So not the Baz Luhrmann, but the best modern R&J was Elena "Cupcake" Sokolova

So weirdly to me, Amber's LP look could read as a modern R&J costume.

I am a Chiba fan but I'm starting to not enjoy her as much because to my eye her elements need a review, and if I can see it, anyone should be able to see it. I really think even with the mistake on the lutz, Amber to me should have been the winner. I don't mind Amber's 3-3 is called as long as Chiba's are.

The Eteri girls, as I recall, got top levels on spins and footwork. They did not give those points away so i think your advice is timely.
