Final Jeopardy Question on 2/17/21

I also got Final Jeopardy correct immediately, and absolutely KNEW none of the contestants would get it right! Even without the year 1990 that really confirmed it, it was the only answer that popped into my head

I like the idea that the skill of actually curling stones across the sheet was eliminated from international competition in 1990.

As if! :giggle: ???
How quickly people forget that it was originally a hairdressing-based sport. The brushes are now the only remaining vestige! And don't even get me started about Skeleton. That one was a casualty of the demand for family-friendly viewing, of course.

Dear Journal:

I am grateful for that unfortunate experience years ago when I tried eating lunch while lurking on FSU. It taught me to wait to eat or drink anything until after I had caught up reading posts.

Yours,

Vagabond

That's the FSU equivalent of Bewitched's Elizabeth Montgomery saying, "Doctor Bombay, Doctor Bombay. Emergency. Come right away!"
In a world brimming with loose morals from the cesspool of social media,I do appreciate (and know I can rely on) reading references from my generation on this forum.

In my day, compulsory figures were part of this country's lexicon—now not even an obscure footnote. Progress? I think not.

I’m sorry, I figured you would be pleased that Jeopardy is keeping awareness of compulsory figures alive. Let me make it up to you with what is perhaps Charlene Wong's finest performance:

Considering all three contestants got the answer wrong, I'm guessing that:

a) The girl wasn't Canadian.
b) The guys were straight.

Actually, I know plenty of Canadians and gay guys who wouldn’t get that answer correct. I remember on the You’re Wrong About podcast on Tonya Harding, the female host was explaining to the gay male host that the name of figure skating comes from figures and he was incredulous - he had no idea. And my gay male Canadian best friend would be unable to answer that question.

Tracy Wilson and Johnny Weir would disown them on the spot!
