I remember liking both Apocalypse Now & The Deer Hunter. Also Who'll Stop the Rain (with Nick Nolte). However, I usually watch movies like those only once due to the graphic violence.

I agree though I find myself going back to The Deer Hunter to the period before they left for Viet Nam. I have a lot of relatives in New Jersey and life is such a celebration with them. When I see the scenes leading up to and including the wedding I am reminded of that passion for life all over again. My relatives are aging but this movie reminds me of when everyone was younger and more vibrant.
