Olga Ermolina's interview with Elena Ilinykh and Ruslan Zhiganshin `We'll work with Najarro in Madrid in June' for fsrussia.ru
Elena Ilinykh and Ruslan Zhiganshin came to Moscow for the physical checks at the end of the season, do some paperwork and find some time to have a vacation. They missed their loved ones in the USA and while home try to spend as much time as possible with them. Hence the very fast interview
OE: Your current coach Igor Spilband already said you are going to keep working with him. Why have you decided to stay in the USA?
EI: The decision was made together with our sponsor. We decided to stay and try developing under a new system.
OE: Was the fact you were the best team in Moscow in your group, while in the USA you will be skating along with your experienced foreign rivals?
RZ: No, that was not part of the decision. Though of course we'll gain from having a good sparring partners.
OE: In what way are the practices in Spilband's group different?
EI: It's a different system, a different approach. One can't compare the system in the USA and Russia. They are different, yet both allow getting the highest results.
OE: Who besides Igor works with your team?
RZ: All the specialists - the whole team in Novi. Except for Igor we work a lot with the French ice dancer Fabian Bourzat.
OE: Where do you live?
EI: 10 minutes away from the rink, we rent small apartments. The most important is a convenient bed so you can sleep enough and rest after the practice till the next morning.
OE: Do you have ideas for the new programmes, will you keep working with Antonio Najarro, who created you colourful programmes in the last 2 seasons?
EI: The skeletons of the programmes are done, the music is chosen and the elements are put. Before leaving to Moscow we skated the SP twice. On June 5th we are flying to Madrid for a week to work with Antonio Najarro. From there we'll go back to the USA where a very strict schedule is awaiting us.
OE: What happened last season and how would you evaluate it?
RZ: I don't want evaluate it. We don't want to look back. We need to look forward. We know what to work on and we have a plan.
OE: What do you want to change in your skating and perhaps in yourselves?
EI: We've been skating together just for 2 years now. It would be wrong talking about changes. We just have to progress, develop and do it faster. We need to be reliable and consistent and yet not lose our personalities.
