DWTS S26: All-Athletes Edition! (i.e. the DWTS thread for NOT yammering about what happened 24 years ago)

I loved Adam's first routine tonight. And Josh's as well. I am seriously bummed that Mirai didn't get to do a contemporary dance because those are the ones that tend to hook the dancers, the judges and the audience so emotionally. Stupid short season.

Well, the bright side is that Mirai is now likelier to keep competing for a while. I doubt that her quest to "be a star" will be much helped by this finish. She sure learned a lot from the experience though and it would be incredible if she could bring it to the ice in competition.
 
Based on dancing skill, Mirai should be there. I think she rubbed some people the wrong way, though. Not just the voice, but she comes off a bit un-endearingly awkward at times.

I also don't think that Tonya's negative history is affecting people as much as it does skating fans. It's coming off as though she's had a bad break (which she has, just due to her own crappy life choices), and I can see how she could come off as likeable as a person (if you're outside the skating world). I also find that she completely emotes through every single movement of her dancing more than the others.

They mentioned that two people were separated by less than 1%. I'm thinking that was Tonya and Mirai.

I so wanted her to do a Paso Doble. It’s the perfect style for her.

But I’ve seen her grow a lot as a performer. So I hope she brings that to the ice. But this hurts so much. My poor baby.
 
First time that both Jenna and Sasha make the finals and get to do a freesytle! I'm looking forward to seeing what Sasha puts together.

Whichever pro wins will be a first time winner!

I mean, it's only a four episode season anyways :p It was clear what was happening from the beginning tbh.
 
I definitely disliked Jenna her previous year as a pro, and the past few years in the troupe - her mugging was always over the top. She definitely toned it down and I actually like her this year. Sharna has upped the mugging quite a bit, and has started to annoy me (last time I actually liked her was when she was paired with James Hinchcliffe).

So since they were tied in points overall after the battle round, Tonya no longer needed 10 000 votes to beat Mirai, she just needed one single vote more.

I know. Thats why I say it's rigged. If Mirai was later in the show she would've scored higher. If she was in a dance off with anyone than Adam, she would've won it. The vote was rigged so Tonya could make the finale.

Interesting, I never looked in to how the votes count with the scores.

Completely agree. Let’s milk Tonya’s current fame for whatever can be gotten from it.

So, what’s the bet here for next week? Tonya dropped first or they squeeze it for all it’s worth against Adam and Josh takes third?
 
LOL, I wonder if the judges/producers were a little surprised that Jennie won over Tonya in the ballroom battle online vote. I would have preferred that Josh and Adam do another ballroom for tonight and save contemporaries for the finale. Adam's contemporary was stunning, but it seemed more like something worthy of a finale, especially since it was to his Olympic (and last year's, and exhibition the year before) free skate music.

That little crack Mirai made was obviously a joke! I can’t believe people took that seriously. She was so good...


Please let her come back next season! Her performance one the dance floor was insane! She could be getting 9s if she could translate that into the ice!

Eh, they've been egging Mirai on to trash talk Adam from the moment they were cast on GMA, it is clearly an act, people apparently take these shows extremely seriously. Meanwhile, Mirai has had nothing but sweet things to say about Tonya, and while I believe in redemption in theory, let me just say that Tonya's edit has seemed like a bit of A Choice from the beginning.

Pretty much. They pitted them against each other tonight because they knew they wouldn't have them both in the finale. I'm so disappointed but not suprised.

This week is all about head lines. Mirai not making into the finale is bound to make major headlines tomorrow. It will get viewers hyped up for the finale and improve ratings.

But Mirai has gone throw Hades. She worked her butt just to make it to the Olympics and delivered a legendary FS at the Team event. She doesn't deserve an ounce of sadness. The it's so sad she has to be the sacrificial lamb to get people hyped for the finale.

Doubtful. Tonya haters would have voted for whoever wasn’t her no matter their popularity. That’s why she can’t win the MBT.
 
I'm not watching this show, but are people really giving Mirai a hard time on social media because of this show? I just read something from Max Settlege about it.

ETA: I just did a search on Mirai Nagasu on Twitter and looked at the latest tweets. Yikes. There's some sort of cultural divide going on.

There really aren't that many people who would go out of the way to vote for someone else just so Tonya won't win. And those people are more than offset by the ones who buy into the poor Tonya propaganda. The more likely reason that Tonya won't win is that she isn't as good at dancing as the others and there is not as much incentive for the judges to inflate her scores in the finale since they are not trying to get her through to another episode. But, who knows, maybe they will make sure she wins.

She would try to be snarky/funny and play up the 'rivalry' with Adam that the producers wanted to build to make a story. I thought she was being funny. Some people thought she was not. Sometimes it didn't come off quite right, but it didn't bother me because I knew she was just playing the role the producers assigned to her. Unfortunately, it created a reason for people (who likely had no idea who Mirai was to begin with) to not like Mirai.
