DWTS S26: All-Athletes Edition! (i.e. the DWTS thread for NOT yammering about what happened 24 years ago)

He did well, but... A good starting position (beginning of second hour), contemporary (which is always leniently marked on this show), and a very sympathetic package. Blech. The producers’ bias is so obvious.

Why are you all so convinced Mirai is going to be out? She has the 2nd highest score so far and she obviously has a lot of fans based on her standing so far so I don’t see why you’re assuming she’ll be out.

I would guess it's because Adam and Mirai are a head-to-head deal that will tip things in Adam's favor? I have no idea how the head-to-head deals rank wrt individual dances, but I'm assuming they'll hold a lot of sway. WHY CAN'T I VOTE FOR THEM BOTH, UGLY CRUEL UNIVERSE??

I think some people believe that DWTS is trying to avoid an all figure skater finale, and DWTS really seems to be propping up Tonya because she's newsworthy and Adam is a lock for the finale.

Because of the way she's being scored versus Adam and Tonya. Adam and Mirai should be neck a neck. The judges have no business scoring Tonya so high versus Mirai (some just a point below Mirai, some TIED with Mirai). It's obvious imo they want to keep Tonya to the bitter end which I don't mind - but not at Mirai's expense. I'm just not feeling it for Mirai tonight. She should have received 9s and 10s just like Adam did for her Quickstep. And having the second highest score doesn't mean you're safe. There is still the public voting but also what I believe is the producer's final decision.

They must not want an all figure skater finale. Probably the football guy against two skaters or possibly even the luger.

But the judge’s marks are only part of the score. I guess I just can’t see Harding having a lot of fans.

Compiling all the individual dances into one post...

Judges: Carrie Ann Inaba / David Ross (guest) / Len Goodman / Bruno Tonioli

Mirai Nagasu and Alan Bersten – Quickstep – “Bo$$” by Ray Chew Live [MVP: her mom]
9 9 8 9 = 35

Jennie Finch Daigle and Keo Motsepe – Viennese Waltz – “The Rest of Our Life” by Tim McGraw & Faith Hill [MVP: her husband]
7 8 7 7 = 29

Chris Mazdzer and Witney Carson – Foxtrot – “I Got Rhythm” by Ray Chew Live [MVP: his mom]
8 9 7 9 = 33

Tonya Harding and Sasha Farber – Rumba – “See You Again” by Tyler Ward [MVP: her dad]
8 9 8 8 = 33

Adam Rippon and Jenna Johnson – Contemporary – “O” by Coldplay [MVP: his mom]
10 10 9 10 = 39

Josh Norman and Sharna Burgess – Contemporary – “Stand By Me” by Bootstraps [MVP: his 4 brothers]
9 9 9 9 = 36

I can't see the judges/ABC/TPTB pushing her this much and this favorably if she did not have at least enough fans for it to be profitable for them.

Tonya seems to have a lot of sympathizers. "Oh it was long ago, why is everybody picking on her, let it go, we love the underdog." She got the redemption edit. And a lot of people don't seem to like Mirai basically because they're viscerally, irrationally annoyed by any young women who are from the Valley and have the speech pattern (or that's my read on the situation) and are not "humble" or demure enough or whatever.

And now Josh scored higher than Mirai. It's probs gonna be Adam Josh Tonya finale.

Apparently, Pure DWTs figured out the numbers (this is from before Josh danced)...
- Jennie needed well more than 23k votes more than Tonya or Chris to get past them and stay in. She'd need 35k more than Mirai, and Chris and Tonya needed 11k votes more than Mirai to pass her.

So Jennie is likely (and rightfully) going home. I think Chris will go home, though I like him. His dance tonight wasn't that great. I think Josh is probably safe after that dance. So it depends on the amount of votes Tonya and Mirai get.

Josh was great! He could make it to the finale with his fan base and if he does well during the dance off.

I personally thought Adam was propped up a lot last week. Mirai's Disney dance was magnificent.

Adam and Tonya are both being propped up, but Adam has the benefit that his first dance went viral, he's easily the most popular on social media, and he's America's self-proclaimed sweetheart ❤️

A lot of DWTS viewers are a similar age as Tonya and with a similar figure. If she doesn't bad mouth anyone, or if nothing negative is shown about her in her package, I can see her getting votes from non-skating fans who think she's doing well for her age.

They have been pushing Adam and Tonya from the beginning. I agree that they probably do not want an all figure skater final three. Mirai does not seem to be getting the same praise from the judges despite obviously being better than tonya and some of the packages and questions in earlier weeks made her personality look flawed unlike the princess treatment Tonya received.

According to Pure DWTS:

Chris and Tonya need nearly 10k to get past Mirai. Mirai is currently in third place and she needs to hope like hell that neither Chris nor Tonya win their dance off or that she’s getting a ton of votes. This could get interesting.

Chris and Tonya only need 10k to beat Mirai and 15k to beat Josh. The dance offs could change everything, of course – probably knocking Chris out of it…and maybe Mirai. We’ll see.
