Ok everyone. This is a question that I've been wondering about. Do you necessarily need to be a Level Ice-Dancer to get a Partner? Or can you get one even if you're just learning? Anyone know the answer to this? Thanks.

There's no rules about what level of ice dance you have to be doing to get a partner. But it is very difficult to find a partner that is the right partner for you. Even very good ice dancers have trouble finding partners, which is why solo dance is so popular.

Being a partner isn't just holding onto the other person and moving around the ice. You have to learn how to do the dances as a couple. For example, if you are swinging your leg, you have to learn to swing it so that you don't kick your partner, or pull them off balance. Sometimes that is really hard, if you have learned the dance as a solo dancer.

If you want to test or compete, you have to have a partner for the tests that qualify you to compete at different levels. As @Clarice says, your coach can be your partner, or you can get another skater to be your partner just for the test.
