I don’t think anyone is talking about what the past few years and especially this year is like for him. That man is being drained! When you think of all the skaters he’s working with daily and ultimately, he’s being asked to select the vehicle that will shape a skaters future, it’s a wonder he doesn’t have a breakdown. I mean, Evgenia and Jason are two huge jobs and the pressure to get it right the first time out is immense. I will say that with the exception of In the Garden of Souls and the free he did for Sui/Han a few years ago, i rarely go back and watch his programs. They are not bad just not cerebral in the way that Lori’s work is in my opinion. That said, a lot of skaters from all over the world are asking him to show up and make them great. Nobody talks about how difficult that job is and how taxing it must be.

I’m glad that man has a Sandra to help him because, wow! I’m reading a lot of “ david’s work is bland” or “ i hate what he picked for Evgenia” comments and people forget about the years he’s been in the game putting together programs that have been very good for many skaters. He works within the framework of a skaters abilities and also asks them to step up higher. He’s a great guy and his work is good.

I wrote this post to put things in perspective and to remind the die hard fans, he’s skating royalty! Cut him some slack.

Saying "he's skating royalty" does not automatically mean he's producing good stuff. At least he hasn't gone down the Lori Nichol path of copy-paste dreck, but it's still bland.

Yes heaven forbid that someone that makes several thousand $$ per program that he choreographs is scrutinized at about 10% of intensity of what the athletes he works with face every day. I’m not anti Wilson, he’s done good work. This post is just so WTF?

Wilson doesn't have to take on more skaters than he wants to.

And DimaToe is probably correct that his per-program fee is in the thousands. Wilson probably wants to strike while the iron is hot. And he'll most likely be set up financially for life.

I haven't noticed anyone being hard on Wilson, hence no need to 'cut him some slack'.

Wilson did some of his best work with Jeffrey Buttle, IMO.

But not all skaters have Buttle's artistry, or are as well-suited to working with Wilson as Buttle was.

TBH I don't really think about Wilson's choreography that often. I don't think much about most choreographers TBH. Shae-Lynne is an exception, as her programs IMO seem to always have her unique signature.

I agree that he was at his best with Jeff, though with Jeff's natural talent in the area, who knows how much of Jeff's programs were strictly David, or a combination of the two? I mean, while winning world and Olympic medals, Jeff was also choreographing for Yuna Kim...

I also enjoyed his work with Joannie (that Firebird!!). So maybe 10 years ago IMO was his peak? At that time he also brought out the best in Dubreuil/Lauzon.

He is a very good choreographer, but i don't think he picked the right style of Medvedeva, although the programmes may improve, i am sure. I do want new style for her, but what he picked is NOT what i had in mind...
