crocheting a baby blanket (need to learn to crochet first)

Found a pattern I liked.
Got the yarn.
Eventually figured out how to make the purchased yarn work with the pattern... getting the sizing right was challenging - my squares were coming out too small, not because of tension but because of difference in yarn weight. Fortunately this was easy (though time consuming) to solve - the pattern easily accommodates extra rounds.

Halfway through the squares now. :)
It's a strike of luck that the pattern is both quite easy and forgiving of the occasional mistake. I've progressed enough to make sense of the more technical suggestions made above. ;) Not sure where things are at now, I feel like I've gotten faster, and I sincerely hope so. Initially, one square was taking me 1.5 hrs - and there are 49 of them...
Aiming to finish this project by the end of June, which means I need to be more focused and consistent with my output.
