The selection for CoC host spots and the Olympic Qualifying Tournament seems to be taking place combined between Aug 12-13, unless I'm misunderstanding.

And according to the eligibility criteria, Wang/Liu are indeed eligible.

Good thing, at least right now, the top comments do seem to point out their grossness, and haven't been scrubbed yet.

If nothing else, the authorities will be scared of sending them to Olympics lest there be massive public backslash.

Doesn't look like Wang/Liu are entered for the Sr Ice Dance based on the entry lists I found, so that's good. Haven't found the Jr Pairs results, but did find the entry list and there are only 4 teams entered, so I'm thinking that all 4 teams will get 2 JGPs since China has 2 spots in each of the 4 JGPs with pairs.

I was right it's Richaud! But for some reason they named it as free skate instead of SP in the post.

It's really not impressive tbh. Jumps used to be Chinese skaters strength. Really barreling down the rink and vaulting to create huge jumps. The fresh batch seems to have meh skating skills, okay spins, and tentative jumps. Or they're "Daiwei" where it's clear the timing's so poor 99% of the time that it creates poor air positions and nearly all imaginable errors on landings (and trash spins people pretend are amazing like they did with his "predecessor" Yan Han).

@Karen-W They're scoring her like a senior and I don't at all think they're doing her a service. She has weaker skating skills than some of the other juniors from what I recall, and I'm really not a fan of those jumps.

Shin is out of juniors now, so maybe the space is clearer for Wang, but who knows who else is coming up.

The junior field is notoriously unpredictable. She could easily be on the podium this year or out of the top 10. About the only thing one can guarantee with the Jr women is that Shimada will be at the top again.

As far as how the domestic Chinese judges are scoring her, I'd be more concerned if Chinese domestic summer comps generated the interest & following of fans the way Russian domestic comps do - because that's how you build undeserved hype. As it is, I can't imagine that many people are aware of how she's scoring at home - and when she does get to seniors, her scores are going to go the same way Nini's have gone & she'll be a middle of the pack skater unless she's delivering clean programs.

Oh, I think it's good if she's getting attention in China - that's great for growing the sport there. She's competed internationally, so I think she probably has a good idea of where she'll score internationally & can recognize domestic score inflation just like skaters around the world.

I think the worry I'd have, in that case, though, would be with new fans not understanding that those scores are inflated and not reflective of what she'd receive internationally, then screaming anti-Chinese bias when her international scores are lower than her domestic scores.

I never thought I'd say I hate chinese skaters' jumps You can see it's especially bad with Shiqi here. As much I do think she's a talented PCS skater for her age.
