Can't Help Falling In Love ... with Hubbell & Donohue (fan thread #2)

Edit : Their dance was really ON POINT ! Non dance related but I think their music is my favorite music (tied with the Shibs) of the all SDs, and that doesn't hurt. Both Hubbell and Donahue looked very sexy in a fighty way. Their energy is unique to them. When all the stars align for something like this, it's great.
Reading this, I was nodding my head thinking "yes, their FD music & energy really is great and it's so them" -- and then I realized this was posted yesterday re: their SD.

But anyway, you took the words right of my mouth (keyboard?) and this FD is probably one of my all time faves in ice dance. I'm so happy/relieved that performance-wise, they kept their focus and avoided random mistakes this time around. Congrats to World Silver Medalists!

I liked this team right out of the gate, but they have particularly impressed me with their continuous drive to improve, which has been been especially evident in the last two seasons.

I was also impressed with how well they rebounded from what for them must have been a disappointing Olympics, as they were so close to a medal. Here they were able to put that behind them. Congratulations to them on a silver medal!

Yes, I don't really know what happened into their head in less than a month, but it's like they had 2 months of training in between. Olympic pressure, expectations, self pressure getting in their way at the Olympics perhaps ?
What made the difference for me in the SD was Zach actually. We already new he's one of the best natural dancer in the field but it showed 1000 times more Friday. Both just seemed in the different place mentally. :BNS1:

I could have said that about their FD as well ! I don't now what the heck Donahue was doing to its hair but it was smooth af. Both had a feline vibe.

I'm so happy for them and I hope the US public will know them more, I have nothing against the Shibs at all (if anything I am happy there is a sister/brother duo at the top) but I was a bit disappointed that they stayed in their shadows at the Olympics. I wish they would have skated at least a dance in the TE. Probably would've had an Olympic (team) medal as well. Anyways, I should not dwell on it. Maybe it was their choice. They hit the US record here, that's to be celebrated :40beers:

No, it most likely was the US federation's choice. They could only split in two disciplines, and they chose to do it with the singles skaters. Or perhaps Chen and/or someone else did not want to skate both programs, in which case the federation had no choice but to split in the respective disciplines. Of course, they could not split in pairs skating, as they had just Knierims at Olympics. In any case, if they wanted/had to split the singles, they had to go with one team in ice dance. And Shibutanis were the logical choice, as, despite loosing to Madison ad Zach at Nationals and loosing in the FD to Chock/Bates twice, they still had the highest scores of the season in both programs internationally + they obviously were ready to skate both programs which may not have been the case with other skaters/teams.

The number of changes they made to the FD between Nationals and the Olympics was quite significant. They actually tweaked both programs, but it seemed to me that the impact on the timing and flow of the FD was more disruptive. Honestly, I think they needed more mileage with the new version to relax into the performance.

So very happy they were able to show their best to close the season. They have achieved so much this year, and given their fans a lot to hope for the future. Sneak in some vacation!

Exactly, they didn't look completely confident with the changes in Olympics FD. The spin needed to be changed (which should have happened the first time they got L2) but the other major changes weren't necessary, not without another competition to iron them out.

Here they regained that confidence they projected earlier in the season. And their scores are super encouraging. They put some distance between them and 3rd and they're the closest to P/C of any team this season aside from V/M. Kudos!

Stars on ice rehearsals are starting soon and it looks like Madi&Zach are headed there after some family and relaxation time. Is any of you attending SoI?
I'm curious to see what they experimented with for the new show number.

I already posted this in the SOI thread but on second thought, maybe this thread would be a better place...

Do you have your @starsonice tickets yet? It will be the last chance to see our Olympic Free Dance live... and only 22 more chances for us to perform my favourite program!

So it looks like they're doing their (fabulous!) FD plus a new show program. Can anybody tell off-hand if this clip is their other number or are they just practicing their FD while an unrelated piece of music plays in the background? I'm not really sure...

Hoping to see some clips of it soon - I'm not familiar with the song.
Btw I have the feeling they are going to be on icetalk (the ice network podcast) soon, iirc they haven't been yet but their greetings appeared in the opening credits of the last couple of episodes.
