Can't Help Falling In Love ... with Hubbell & Donohue (fan thread #2)

OMG it is almost here! Sending love and best wishes for a great skate. I think we want a medal for Madison and Zachary as much as they do!

It was a wonderful skate. I’m amazed by how everything has fallen into place. They’re in third at the Olympics, fighting for bronze, just as so many of us had hoped. Proud of them for skating so clean under pressure, while still maintaining their wonderful expression. It’s going to be very close with the Shibs for the bronze, I wish both teams the best. :)

I didn't feel like their short dance was the best they could have done, so I hope they go out and nail the free dance. Even if they don't get the marks or placement they want, at least an attacking, solid performance should make them feel like they gave it everything they had. If they are clean in the free dance, then based on what I saw live at Nationals in San Jose, they should be in the top three. It was the program of the week, all disciplines included. They are really something special.

I hope tonight they find the balance between skating all out emotionally but being technically controlled. I felt like they were a bit restrained yesterday.
IIRC the changes they made after Nationals, they have replaced the second spin with the hand holding spin from last year's FD and they have a new more impactful ending.
Go Madi and Zach! :cheer2:

I feel pretty peaceful right now. They skated so well last night - not perfect, but they really put themselves in good position. I feel like they're going to skate lights out.

mysticchic, if it's not too late please pass along my well wishes for them! Sending them positive thoughts, and I hope they have fun. :)

Posted in the Chock & Bates thread saying good luck to H&D in the FD.

So glad I actually like both teams this year.

This event is gonna give me a hert attack

That said, and in the right thread... go H&D!!!

I woke up, checked the results, saw the relatively low (compared to Shibs) TES and the deduction and was "...oh no not again?" :(

Haven't watched their performance yet but I'm so gutted for them :wuzrobbed

On the bright side... Even with that mistake they still placed fourth, ahead of Bob/Sol who apparently skated without any major mistakes. (Haven't watched them yet, either.) That's very encouraging.

I agree with Paul Wylie, we can all expect greatness from them. I expect them to go to Milan and kick ass and get that first World medal of theirs... and now that V/M retire and we're heading into the next quad, there will be an epic (if friendly) HubDon vs. PapCiz rivalry for that top spot.

So sad for Maddie and Zach! Zach looked so devastated in the kiss and cry. :wuzrobbed I hope that they will go to worlds and we will see them on the podium there. And I do agree with Paul Wylie, I expect to see a lot from Maddie and Zach in the next four years.

114+ was not unbeatable with a clean skate, but they had the check on twizzles plus the stumble/fall at the end that invalidated the element. 3rd highest PCS indicates the judges were ready to give them bronze.
So so heartbroken, hoping that this does not become a much bigger mental block and the come back strong at worlds.

I hope they're able to refocus and get that medal at Worlds!

First disappointed for me too with ID podium. Actually double disappointment for me. I would have loved to see P/C and H/D celebrate together their greatest achievement yet. But I'm really sad for H/D because they don't get to be at all on the podium. You could see they pushed the performance to give it all but with that always come the risk of sloppiness. I just hope they stay on and get on that world podium.

Paul Wylie indicated in his tweet that they are doing another four years.

They have just got to get those twizzles sorted out in high pressure situations. I’m so frustrated for them that this keeps happening. I’ve been following them since the beginning in 2011 and I want to beat my head against a wall.

Seeing the positive side, I'm happy that they are not retiring. I was worried the whole season they would - I thought the US nationals were a "now or never" moment. And the fact that Donahue was starting to coach younger teams was worrying (not for the younger teams !).

So we'll see them in the next quad, that's great news !
