Bud Collins Passed Away

Bud Collins, one of tennis's most flamboyant and outspoken journalists and historians, has died at age 86, the Boston Globe reports. Collins, known as much for his outlandish outfits as for his vast knowledge of tennis lore, died Friday at his Brookfield, Mass. home.

Oh, sad news. RIP. I remember him fondly on NBC.

I didn't much care for Bud when he wanted to be "laugh-a-minute Bud", but my goodness, he had an incredibly astute tennis brain and when he wasn't trying for comic effect he was so fantastic to listen to/read. I don't know how Joanne Russell worked with him - he was always the gentleman, but he showed up her relative cluelessness so many times.

I loved Bud commentating with BJK - they were an amazing team.

There will never be another Bud Collins, that's for sure.
