Balls and strikes: the 2026 baseball thread

Let me know when the Nationals ownership/management stops sabotaging their own team and maybe I'll be interested in baseball again. :blah:

I'm certainly not going to suggest that she switch over to the Braves :biggrinbo
My interest in baseball is limited to having my own team. My expansive baseball fandom years are decades behind me.

I experienced being forced to find a new team before most of you all were born and it wasn't fun. Its Washington or nothing for me.

Even though my father grew up in College Park, Maryland (not far from the DC line) he always said he would only root for Maryland teams. He was always a Baltimore Orioles fan and Baltimore Colts fan (later a Ravens fan). His brother always rooted for the Senators and the Redskins (and later the Nationals). Back in th 70's I remember when the Redskins played the Miami Dolphins in the Super Bowl. My elementary school had a Redskins rally to celebrate. I and one other kid in my class refused to participate. The daughter of one of the Redskins was in kindergarten at our school at the time.

Orioles GM Mike Elias has announced that Jackson Holliday broke his hand (the hamate bone) in batting practice and will undergo surgery.

Anyone watching the World Baseball Classic? I’m proud of Nola getting the USA to the quarterfinals by his wonderful 5 innings for team Italy.

I watched the first couple US games. They have been really fun and the lineup is so good. But it’s embarrassing that they didn’t know the rules and almost got themselves eliminated. Thanks team Italy for the save!

I like that Justin Verlander is back with the Tigers. Yeah, he left us but he had good reasons and there was never animosity, as far as I know. I hope that he can help guide our young pitchers while still contributing himself (once he gets off the DL). It just somehow feels right.

My Phillies dumped two out of three to the Giants with me there watching. Harumph. But Brandon Marsh is one of the nicest guys ever!

My boy Brandon Marsh is batting .344 right now, and being the guy who couldn’t hit lefties is now .308 against them! I love seeing people I like succeed! Plus he’s one of the nicest guys ever

Well, the Blue Jays are not off to a great start, though similar to last year in terms of record at this point. I did get a quarter season ticket package so will be going to a lot of games (I’ve been to 3 of 20 so far and they won twice). I hope they can turn things around and I’m wondering how long can we say “oh it’s still early….”

The Jays are finally at .500! They are 29 and 29. Last season they reached .500 at 28 and 28. Let's go! My next game is this Friday which is pride night. They are 0 for 2 at pride night games I've been at so let's hope they turn it around!

My Phillies are finally playing like a real major league team instead of little league! Marsh and Sanchez for all stars!

For those following the Orioles' season and betting on games, baseball picks can really improve your game strategy
I've found some solid insights there that help me make more informed decisions
It's interesting to see how data analysis can shape expectations, especially with so many games in a season
Definitely worth checking out for anyone interested in placing bets this year

That Phillies/nationals game was mind blowing! Nationals regain the lead in the bottom of the eighth, then the Phil’s score 8 runs with two outs in the top of the ninth and win 14-9!! Just, wow!
