Salt Lake City is expecting good news about the 2034 games tomorrow at about 11:00 AM, Paris time. That's 3:00 AM Salt Lake time. People who are staying up have already started to stake their places at the city and county building where the celebration will take place. Tomorrow is a state holiday in Utah which makes it easier to get a crowd at 3:00 AM.

France is also expected to get the bid for 2030.

France getting another Olympics in just 6 years? I'm really surprised with all of the European countries to choose from that could host the Winter Olympics that never have.

Salt Lake thought about either 2030 or 2034. 2030 would have been just 2 years after Los Angeles. The Salt Lake Committee decided it would be better to go for 2034. I don't think there is a problem with 2030 in France. Remember the last 2 Winter Olympics have been in China and Korea, and before that Russia. It will be nice to have the Winter Olympics back in areas that are famous for their snow.

To me, it's less weird that France is (hopefully) getting two Olympics six years apart and more weird that the 2026 and 2030 Winter Olympics are being held in neighboring countries. Assuming that the French Alps gets the Olympics and the figure skating events are held in Nice as planned, then the figure skating events for 2026 and 2030 Winter Olympics will be held only about 300 km apart. Even Cortina is closer to Nice than Paris is.

As someone with a house in Nice and many friends in Milan, I'm thrilled about this, even though I think it's weird! :D

Fifteen-year-old figure skater Kate Pressgrove has arrived in Paris as part of the official delegation for Salt Lake City's bid for 2034 Olympics. The other two athletes representing local youth legacy programs are Emma De Bock, a figure skater who made a successful switch to speed skating in 2023; and luger Orson Colby.
(On July 24, a small team from the SLC delegation will make a final presentation before the IOC's definitive vote and announcement of the host city.)

SLC-UT 2034's announcement of the delegation two weeks ago included Q&A with Kate and the other two youth athletes, beginning at approx. 41:55.

Would love it if you could also post this in the 2030, 2034 Olympic thread. I don't think I know how to repost - at least not easily.

Reposting from U.S. Women thread, per request of @A.H.Black.

Salt Lake City got the NWSL back, then got the NHL from Phoenix. SLC is looking to add MLB When a city thinks big try often enough big results follow

Baby American's turn is 2034. Not sure what to do with the Baby Brits, though.
Honestly, I think the Baby French, Baby Brits and Baby Americans time won't come in 2030 or maybe even 2034. LopBri and NesMark are probably going to be odds-on faves in Nice and SLC.

Not sure I have the Americans as favorites in 2030, but they were the first on my list for 2034 - assuming all the unknowns.

No, I don't think NesMark will be medal faves in 2030. Maybe another US team will be in the medal mix (one or two of CarPon, GreenP, ZingKol, etc). I do think LopBri or DemLeM will be medal faves in 2030, though.
