Oh, Kaori, I'm not ready to say goodbye.

It's the last season of the competition so I've given up bitching about the incongruity of the Renaissance-inspired dress for the R+J soundtrack set in a 1990s SoCal beach town.At least she's wearing the blue dress instead of the pink one that REALLY leaned into the fairytale vibes.
She was my favourite so far tonight. I thought her SP was underscored both here and at the Olympics.I'm going to disagree here--Sasha IIRC did fall twice, but the program itself didn't fall apart. In fact, she kind of came alive after the second fall and I think it was almost freeing to her. The biggest problem with Amber is when she falls, it affects EVERY aspect of her skating. Amber can't shake it off. Sasha did. By the time Sasha finished her program, I'd honestly forgotten she fell. Slute was good about that too, not letting a missed jump affect the overall quality of the program. I think that's the biggest weakness of skaters who never skated under 6.0--there's not as much consideration given to the overall feel and total picture the program makes as they do the individual pieces. The Canadians were amazing at falling and still having enjoyable programs--Chan, Buttle, Sandhu, Rochette.Yes, because, as I noted, of the difference in eras. Sasha's Olympic free skate should have dropped her off the podium, but it didn't because Torino was a total mess. Amber doesn't have that luxury.
The shark got her after she drowned, and her dress turned red from the blood in the water. Then why is she wearing a RED dress. Make it look like water or something.

Speaking as a long-suffering Sandhu fan, Amber is more like the Eman - a Grand Prix Final champion who can't seem to win a Worlds medal.Amber is a bit more like Johnny Weir, though he did achieve one world bronze. Great skating, not so great mental game. Tammy Gambill and Priscilla Hill are two coaches whose names I associate with skaters who seem to have talent but who don't quite make the final leap world-wise.
Tough day for her.
He was another one with a coach who is problematic. Joanne McLeod. Ugh.Speaking as a long-suffering Sandhu fan, Amber is more like the Eman - a Grand Prix Final champion who can't seem to win a Worlds medal.

Sublime!!!

Well done Kaori.
