2026 Worlds Mens FS PBP - You Will Score Something, But Not Nothing

Congrats to Stephen Gogolev placing 4th in his first Worlds. Hoping future expectations will not dim his light.

(Also super proud that after all these years on FSU and watching comps, I can tell a 3A from a 4A. )

Taking nothing away from what he DOES do on the ice .... he's an incredible jumper ... BUT I think this is ludicrous that he has been given credit for 2 quads he didn't even do. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

For me, Yuma Kagiyama had THE skate of the day.

Folks, the detailed protocol have the jumps marked correctly as 3A and 3F. The 4Lz+1Eu+3S had the Lz called q. His TES really was that high and it really wasn't even close in the long run for the FS win.

I’m so glad I came to Prague. This was the palate cleanser I needed after the Friday the 13th disaster in Milan. Great competition all around.

Now I just need FB&C to wipe out on an element (or sadly probably two) for the Olympic cleansing to be complete.

One out of two isn’t bad, I guess.

No. I'm sorry, I'm OK with him winning overall, but his score should be way closer to Yuma's. His tech score should have dropped by at least five points.

Oh well, I got to see Yuma's free clean and that's a win. For me. And that's what's important.

Verner is as annoying as screamy as Wagner. Do they coach them to do this as I don't think that's Tomas's natural personality?

So I speak some German and Russian and my brain keeps trying to translate and tells me I should have a basis for understanding Tomas. But I don't. Because Czech is neither Russian nor German. But my brain, which is dumb, is saying, no, no, you CAN understand Czech.

Also, my mom is apparently a fan of Ilia. Not skating, Ilia personally. She is upset with me cause I said I'd have given it to Kagiyama. Did she watch either program? No. No, she did not. She did Connections and Wordle.

Great to watch the last group. Yuma! So glad to see him skate clean. The performance of the evening. Ilia fought the mental battle well, and despite not maxing out the quads, he wins by 20 points. Back on track!

When I rewatched Ilia the quad lutz with the euler and triple salchow went in as 6 points during the skate---am I not seeing this correctly?

Seems to me that, in person, Ilia's performance was quite captivating and compelling - at least for half the judges.

That ought to set the anti-Ilia half of FSTW into a tizzy that will occupy them for months, if not years, to come.

What a fantastic competition !

Yuma was amazing, Shun was great, Malinina was Malinin. I wonder if anyone is going to take his music from this season to skate next season

Fa is the most talented of them all, and he's soooo frustrating. But I'm glad he was the only one to desintegrate. I was very nervous for Selevko, but he brought himself and the brother two spots, I was really glad for him.

Gogolev is uninspiring but ok, he lands stuff

These guys are out there attempting -- and often achieving -- some of the most difficult elements in sport. And when they are on, it's thrilling for all of us. They deserve our respect, not our derision.
