2026 US Nationals Pairs FS "Ghosted (by my triples)"

I meant it as a commentary on self-involved US imperialism. Not an endorsement by any means.
Oh I know you well enough to know that. I didn't for a second think that you were endorsing it. I just am aware of the power of what we think and write and say, both individually, and universally.

Ohhhh, interesting... In the end credits at the conclusion of the combined broadcast, NBC is showing snippets of Chan/Howe along with ShiNagy, KamO and EfiMit...

Peacock is showing the medals ceremonies for both Pairs & Women even though the USA broadcast has already signed off!

I was watching the TV coverage because Peacock wouldn’t let me rewind back far enough. Anyways, at the end Tara and Johnny both said they would send S/N bc they are the future. And then Terry said, “So they’re going to chose C/H.” So take from that what you will.
My gut feeling is to send S/N as well. Most Likely C/H and K/OS are done after this season. There’s a lot of speculation that E/M aren’t going to stick around another 4 years, so sending S/N would be looking to the future. Even M/P would be a question mark for me for another full quad because isn’t she 30ish??? That said, USFS tends toward Nationals Results when things are close and/or the more established skated/team (Jason Brown 2022 anyone??). It all comes down to what USFS wants and I think that if they really wanted to send S/N, they would have given some better GOEs for what they did.
I honestly don’t really care who gets the spot. I am not as enamored with C/H as some of you. She can barely land a jump and hasn’t been able to for years. He has a bad shoulder and both of them seem pretty checked out if you ask me. I think the potential is much higher for S/N though I do wonder if they will split if they don’t get an Olympic spot. She is good, but still new to pairs while Balazs is one of the best male pair skaters out there. He could be put with many of the pair girls that will go on the Merry Go Round of partners after this season is over. I do feel bad for everyone involved. All the scores are so tight and no one really skated well. If there had been more separation of scores, it would be a lot easier decision to make.

30ish? Stellato-Dudek has entered the chat

I don’t disagree but S-D took a 16 year break, Katie hasn’t. I don’t know her personally but maybe she wants to get married, have a family, or her body won’t hold out. Not many are built like S-D. Maybe Katie will stick around (and I hope so because she’s my favorite US Pair girl), but I can’t blame her if that’s not what she wants either.

From what I saw Parkman was making all the mistakes. And you shouldn't assume what a woman wants to do or else we should be going off about all the other 30-ish men as well.

I don't think "the future" is part of the selection criteria, and they certainly didn't think about "the future" when they benched Malinin last quad.
Nope, they most certainly didn't.

Honestly, I think they shouldn't get the spot just because of their awful FS music selection. I'd much rather see Hot Ghost at the Olympics than the atrocious "Two Men in Love" program.

Also, last season, they sent ShiNagy to 4CCs for the experience and "the future" and we saw how THAT worked out...

Medal ceremony time!

Only change from last year's podium is silver & bronze are swapped.

Danny's got a phone tucked in his waistband - guess he's in charge of the group selfie, lol.

All 4 teams are really struggling to get on the top of the podium together! You know, that problem could be easily solved by making the podium just a little bit wider, lol.

The future is elusive in skating, and hard to plan for. Case in point—none of the top 3 pairs here were even together this time 4 years ago. There is really only the now.
True enough - and with Balazs' track record, I suppose there's a pretty high chance he'll be partner-shopping again this spring/summer if he misses another Olympic team (remember how he dumped Pavlova after Euros 2022 when they didn't get the pairs spot over Chtchetinina/Magyar). That's still not a reason to put him on this Olympic team, IMO - not especially when they've lost the two public head-to-head competitions to ChanHowe this season.

I don't know how to feel about this event. There weren't really any highlights. USFS better send McPark to worlds with a bronze medal here after the got silver last year and somehow weren't offered either worlds or 4CC.
Word.

Trump won't do that for pairs figure skating, sorry. Also, not especially since it would probably mean that a serving member of the military (Howe) loses out on their Olympic dream.
This is a good point that most of us hadn't thought of.

What I take is that Tara & Johnny always say something like this and Terry looks at reality. USFS is not going to send S/N "for the future." Not to the Olympics.

Jackie Wong’s latest posts on X suggest that Efimova is out of time.

(Read the whole thread.)
Makes sense what Farrell is saying per Jackie. While I would love for Efimova to get her citizenship in the next 10 hours, if she doesn't have it by then... The selection document is quite clear on the matter and the USFS/USOPC would be opening themselves up to a huge mess of a lawsuit if they tried to find a way around it. We'll see, though, I guess.

ETA - Farrell made these remarks at the start of the Pairs FS Press Conference -

If Chan/Howe hadn’t had an absolute disaster short, along with a record of inconsistency going way back, I’d say that’s the way the cookie crumbles, send them. But it’s that rare occasion I agree with Johnny and Tara.

Danny has his own injury history. If Chan/Howe have to skate a TE segment and flub it, no one at USFS is going to be able to say they didn’t know.

I think if ISFSA wanted Shin/Nagy on the team, there would have been more score manipulation. This isn’t a situation where Chan and Howe clearly outskated Shin and Nagy and there was no way not to put them ahead. People would’ve been less surprised if they were ahead.

Furthermore, Shin and Nagy have no body of work to put them over Chan and Howe.

Yes, the criteria kind of lets them do what they want, but I don’t think it lets them do what they want to the point that they can just pick based on vibes or “the future”.

Based on what criteria do people want to send the team that finished lower?
