Victory for Amber--that damned loop. On the other hand, had she skated well in the SP, it's Amber, so there's every chance she would not have skated that well in the free. Or got to sit in that chair for that long.

I love this. No one screaming hysterically, camera following upset Russian teenagers, Kaori bemused, poor Shcherbakova sitting on her own, unable to enjoy her moment. Now the biggest drama is WHERE IS MY MAKE-UP

Kaori, that loop mistake and not thinking on the fly is gonna haunt her forever.

I haven't done the math , but would doing 3F+2T instead of 3Lz+2T at the beginning have been enough? Is the margin greater than the +REP penalty?

I don't think just adding a +2T to the triple loop would've been enough. (ETA, I see you pointed out she had already done two.)
