I also suspect that these sounds bites are a result of dumb questions and having to come up with something.

She's talked about it in at least two different fluff pieces I've seen from her in the last year and very much presented it as making her unique. Maybe she is unique among figure skaters for playing MTG, but she's in no way unique amongst Gen Zers - it's super-popular with a lot of people her age (my older nephew will be 26 later this year).

Skaters are not generally interesting people and rarely have lives outside of skating, so it's something the fluff pieces can focus on.
