2026 Olys Free Dance PBP - Whale, Are We Ready For Some Bull Sheet Scores?

We needed the men to skate today. Too much time to talk about the last event. And I agree the petition is silly and unecessary. This is figure skating. This is expected and to be honest, the four retiring teams all received some nice parting gifts (including the French here thinking they retire again but hoping they stick around.) If there was a problem with one judge hopefully it will be addressed.

Except leg matching is not controlled 100% by height. I have mentioned this before but my dance coach was 1 foot and 7 inches taller than me but we had amazing unison. (To the point where people commented on it.)
Pictures and or a video would be nice. ;)

I'm sure I have video around somewhere. He is a very good coach and very good at matching his skaters. But our legs just lined up better than a lot of skaters taller than me.

Absolutely agree with those saying Piper and Paul had THE skate of the day. Very, very happy for them, especially given the way this season was going for them.
It's probably the best they have ever skated, a wonderful Olympic moment for them and a well-deserved Olympic medal.

Also happy for Allison and Saul, still can't get their FD, but the RD is lit, I like them as people, and they have been having a flawless season so far.

Disappointed in the way Marjo and Zach have been treated, both by their coaches and judges. I really hope they take some action now, or it will be too late (and kinda already is).

Going into the event, felt indifferent about who should win the gold. The French are clearly a better and much stronger team; C/B are supposedly nicer people, okay.
But it is a sport, and the Olympics, so stronger skaters should win. I know C/B were coming here as 3-time world champions, but their dominance was carefully cultivated, too, with the help of Montreal judges. They have never been as naturally dominant as V/M, D/W, or P/C. I understand it's hard to lose the biggest title you can ever get, and I feel bad for them as people, but they are now arguing against the very same vehicle (aka the judges' support) that had been helping them for the last 4 years. Of course, it's easier when you are competing against G/P or G/F, but it's only natural that the judges will split when there is another top team from the same school.
If you want to recount this event, let's also take a look at the 2024 Worlds or other times when it was C/B who won with mistakes and wobbles. It's absolutely meaningless, and you should be gracious not only in victory, but in defeat as well

I’ve done my part in answering all the text messages from friends asking if the Americans were robbed. No, I said, the French are better skaters, the nature of the judging panel had some impact but in the arena, the choice was clear. I might wish it weren’t so but have no horses to ride…

My next question reflects a post above. Have LaLa and CarPon missed their moments in the long wait for G/P and C/B to retire? Will they now be also-rans for whom it took too long to shine? And if ZingKol are headed to #1 USA with a bullet, is there a Canadian team that will do the same?

It’s not a question about C/P. Z/K came good at the right time. Ice dance is all about timing in more ways than one.

L/L not so sure. There isn’t really any other team in Canada.

LaLa have the luck that there isn't another Canadian team that is remotely as good as they are. But they do need better programmes. I wish they would consider to work with another choreographer for once. So many movements they have been doing this quad are repetitve. They need different input, IMO.

I think it is clear that IAM has their own priority list and as of now LaLa don't seem to be very high on that list. Maybe things are going to change once they are Canada #1.

For what it's worth, every single one of my lay friends and family members have been sending me messages gushing about the French. They have no idea about anything that has to do with their personal lives, but they can just see they are exceptional skaters.

If you asked me one year ago, I would never have thought I would be mad about Bock not winning and said there was done injustice to them. The French Evil team +3 and 4 on those twizzles will never be forgiven, never.

Does anybody know if FBC has said something recently/after the skate about still aiming for 2030 or did they not comment or that matter, or nobody asked them? I really need them to retire now or take a long hiatus or we going to have 4 awful years...

There is so much BS going around on social media. I thought one video was a joke because they started off by saying "I watch skating at the Olympics every 4 years for the last 8 years so I think I know what I am talking about". But they were serious.

Thankfully there are many people who are a bit more educated explaining how it works.

I agree that Madison and Evan have been very professional and trying not to get drawn into the controversy, even though everyone is asking them about it.

Oh they, or at least Gui would surely have been sour and whined about unfair judging. Madi and Evan are so poised and graceful to not go that road.
He didn’t when he and Gabriella lost to Virtue/Moir in 2018. Chock and Bates have been dignified in how they are handling this despite their disappointment.

To bring it back to the point I was making, what would people here and in the US media be saying if the shoe was on the other foot? They’d be saying it was sour grapes and that the right team won.

I hope for your sake that this is the worst thing that ever happens to you.
Nah, it´s worse for the athletes involved that got their Olympic dream crushed because of this. Actually is a dark day for the whole sport. Most of us knew that ice dance judging is unfair but actually not trying to even hide such obvious robbery it´s bad, really bad. For all the teams that plans to continue it must really frustrating observing this.

Is this the best comment you can come up with for such injustice?

How long have you been watching skating? There have been many a "wuzrobbed" moments in ice dance along the years. Some of them were very obvious indeed, but this one is definitely not one of them. Unless we are watching different programs.

Skaters continued to skate after Drobiazko Vanagas were robbed several times. And after Fusar Poli won over Anissina Peizerat. There are so many examples.

Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and the French fans and media were whining about how they were were robbed? The conversation here and in the American media would be very different.

Isn't that what we've had for the past three years, up to and including the GPF? Chock can't skate, FB&C should win even with a fall, Shawn Retstatt has fixed everything.

I can't recall a time in ice dance when the losing team and their fans haven't whined.

I’m still pissy about Hawayek/Baker not winning Skate America a few years ago. And Hubbell not getting silver in Beijing. I’m mad every competition that Lop/Bri are placed behind R/A and if the Swedes hadn’t managed to get to Milan I’d be mad about that too.

I love ice dance because I can be pissy about so many things that aren’t macro-politics and the state of the world! (And it’s beautiful to watch, of course.)

No because FB/C didn’t start competing until five months ago.

Lajoie/Lagha finishing 10th here, after being 5th at Worlds two years ago, is a tough result for them, and tough to see as someone who likes them … I agree they need to have a pretty big think about what happens next, and what changes need to be made.

And CarPon finished 5th at Worlds last year. So it’s no longer true there’s no movement in dance, but I’m far from sure that the current rankings will hold after the top teams, plus some of the middling ones, retire.
