2026 Olympics Opening Ceremony - Mamma Mariah, Here We Go Again!

I think Shawn got some "shut it down" with he made a "it was refreshing to have a black athlete join our sports, we don't have many of them".

But maybe it was the mom talk
That particular gaffe was after he was talking about wanting to go to India for the culture, people, food and Mary Carillo said “You should take your mom to India.” I do think Terry just flat out interrupted him after the later comment. That was a failed experiment. I did miss Savannah Guthrie, feel so bad for her.

Why would you boo that given your support of the current US administration?

I at least agree that Trump's behavior toward women is and always has been problematic. I didn't vote for him and tried very hard to make sure he was not the nominee. JD Vance and Marco Rubio, who were booed, have no such history with women (AFAIK).

There are athletes competing in this Olympics who are silencing women and supporting rape culture. I think that's a bigger and more pressing issue for the Olympics than booing Israel or JD Vance.

You don’t deny you support his administration which is covering up a global ring of sex trafficking so do forgive me if your selective outrage around certain athletes does sound very hollow.

Maybe there should be an Olympics political thread, too :saint:

Yes yes I know that the Olympics are inherently political. But can we please keep US politics out of it? And bringing up revelations from the Epstein files can be triggering to survivors of abuse; they should be prefaced with a content warning/kept in a separate thread.

The NBC primetime coverage was significantly worse than the live (based on comments here.) They skipped so many countries in the parade. Bocelli aside, I was not blown away by any of it. The flame is beautiful, though.

I really like the design of the caldrons except that I wish they'd found a way to do it with more actual fire. As a piece of art, it's interesting. As a fire, it's not very fiery.

I just watched the reply Host Feed with no commentary.

I think I saw Juicy Love Dion (as a boy) in the fever dream dance number! Unmistakable curls, and s/he is the princess of Milan, no?

I didn't like the cauldrons -- too small and they looked like barbed wire balls.

I hated when the athletes from the United States chanted "USA, USA." Shut up.
