Watch olympics every 2 years since childhood, and I never remember how the olympic hymn sounds... to me that is the mark of a bad anthem, couldn't they have made it catchy? Or at least memorable?

I miss when Ode to Joy was always played in the opening ceremony it's epic and glorious like the a Olympic hymn should be. That would be a great replacement for the Olympic hymn. Now it's Imagine i guess though we didn't get it this time thank God.

Agreed. I’m hoping we get some 84 nostalgia at the LA Olympics.

As far as this ceremony, it did the job but wasn’t particularly spectacular IMO.

Loena is still in Belgium and will probably travel to Milan closer to the women’s event. Nina travelled to Milan earlier today, will try the Olympic ice at practice and probably then return home to continue preparations. Was nice seeing her beaming smile today

Did you know that Diana Davis is one half of a pair figure skating team?

Surprisingly, Nathalie Pechalat on France TV thought that the other flag bearer for Georgia was Smolkin and not Berulava, because she said they were married and gave details on passports/naturalisation only for Diana.

Pechalat pointed out the federation switches of all figure skaters flag bearers throughout the athletes parade. At first I thought because most of them were Russians before and this annoyed her, but then she listed all the countries Allison Reed represented, mentioned that Olivia Smart was also British, that Sauter represented Germany before and that Feigin is also Israeli (I didn’t know that), so it was fair. But I still wonder if she places the same accents when commentating Lopareva, Pavel Kovalev or LFB.

I think Shawn got some "shut it down" with he made a "it was refreshing to have a black athlete join our sports, we don't have many of them".

I saw a dove immediate - DH needed an explanation of why a dove

I think it is cool and respectful to have cauldrons in the host Cities.

And the 4 sites for opening ceremonies. I remember so many times in the past, the announcers would say the athletes in the other locations just couldn't attend opening ceremonies because of their competition schedules.

Since those competitors from all countries likely know each other, it was probably a big celebration at those sites

I couldn't post and watch at the same time - hence the late thoughts

They were booing the clown on the big screen not the athletes.

The crowd also very loudly booed Israel, and there was no one on the screen then. The athletes are not responsible for their governments.

If booing is acceptable, there's a certain ice dance team promoting toxic masculinity and rape culture that I'd like to boo .
