What I was thinking about was the Olypmics in 2010 in Vancouver and a reason it is hard to root against Canada. Canada won the gold (as usual) and the US won the silver (also very usual) but during the medal ceremony when the players were announced the Canadian fans erupted in applause for the US goalie (Ryan Miller) who had a splendid Olympics and had to fight tooth and nail to fend off one shot after another from Canada. I thought that applause was so classy.

It has been a long time since the US men have won a gold medal in hockey. A long damn time. Kind of speechless right now.

I'm not a hockey fan so I had no idea it had been that long (longer than I've been alive!). I grew up hearing about the Miracle on Ice every Olympics but I didn't realize that was the last time the US won. Congrats to them, gotta feel for Canada losing both gold medals in OT.

Great memories. This is the first time they have won it outside of the US. As for the OT. I don't like the 3 on 3 format. Just let the teams play.

Despite watching Heated Rivalry (twice), I still don’t know how many periods (?) there are in an ice hockey game.

Heated rivalry is not a very good show if your goal is to learn about hockey.

I'm not sure about that. I think if the men play the best of three Canada wins. I feel like our goalie had a sparkling second period against Canada but to do that again and again? The women: I think the US has a stronger-than-average team this year. I think they win the best of three.
