Interesting that Rachel Samiri has moved up to Juniors - she competed in Novice Girls at some other NQS events this summer.

Elano as a junior is obviously a registration mistake (in my estimation), as he's #2 ranked NQS as a senior. I'm pretty sure there's some rule against going backwards once you've leveled-up in NQS.

That's what I was thinking too.

Well, Elano appears to have competed as a junior at Skate Cleveland. I have no idea what the reasoning or rationale is behind that. The only thing I can think of about the (perhaps imagined) rule of not going backwards in NQS is that he missed out on an intended junior NQS competition when he went to Riga for JGP. But as both Jr. Champ and JGP competitor, he as a bye to sectionals. What is his end goal here, to compete in both Jr. and Sr. Nats concurrently as they do in other federations (like Japan)? Is that allowed or disallowed in the USA, or has there just been nobody who has tried it in recent memory? Besides possibly the prestige of medaling in both, what is the goal? Perhaps it's a hedge to stay in a higher funding envelope in case he doesn't medal in Sr. Nats? I'm so confused.

^^ He may want additional practice skating his Jr program, to put himself in contention for another Jr int'l and/or JW.

Perhaps? JW is so far away, and it seems that the TBD for JGP Gdańsk should go to Brooks (or Farrington if he bests Brooks), or someone new like Azadpour. Tayside Trophy (Scotland) is a few weeks away, perhaps he's going there to try and gain some more international points to stay in contention for JW should Blackwell and/or Kazenecki fail to qualify for JGP Finals?

Please forgive my ramblings; I'm still new to the ins and outs of international-level competitions.

Congratulations to Joshua Snyder for crossing the Junior ISP threshold today with a final score of 173.06 to take silver in the Boston Open NQS.

For those unaware, the ISP (International Selection Pool) threshold is currently 165 for juniors.

He finished just behind Zachary LoPinto who just completed his first NQS competition of the season, which now qualifies him for sectionals. IIRC, he's been struggling with some sort of injury since the Cranberry Cup International in early August. USFS might had let him go to sectionals without it, but I'm not 100% sure (since he was probably registered for the NQS at the same time as Cranberry Cup and got upgraded). In any event, glad to see he's back and skating well.

The big mystery of the season is Henry Gao. He never competed in an NQS, but he gets a bye to sectionals for having competed in a JGP event. I assume he's uninjured and just working hard on new skills in the background, but it's odd not to keep up those competitive chops.
