2025 Skate Canada Womens SP PBP - Night of the Cheating Edge

Once AI comes to the ISU in 50 years to call the jumps, you all gonna be pissy when 89 year old Tony is vindicated from all these years of whining about looking the other way because 'tHe bAd AngLe'
You think it's going to take 50 years?
🤔

Isabeau with a lack of whickety whack, but even with clean costume lines she ends up with a yoke around her shoulders. Is this a trick to keep her from raising her shoulders?
I think it's supposed to be like a Bardot neckline--a sort of horizontal piece/shawl that extends all around the shoulders. It typically is wider than what is on Isabeau's dress and if there is any space at all in back between the bottom of the shawl and dress it's quite minimal. The problem with this dress design in real life is you cannot raise your arms. They tried to compromise here and it simply looks weird. Short sleeves with a sweetheart neckline, and not low in the back, would have worked fine and looked OK for the period she's going for. Or sleeveless.

It took them 25 years to get out of the 90s. Maybe even the 80s in which case add 10 years to it.
True. I think the technology will be there sooner. We'll just see it in other sports first.

Isabeau used to place her combo in the short program in the second half of the program, I guess she won’t be doing that anymore..

While Alysa is now placing hers in the second portion.

Levito with L3 on the steps and the combo spin today v. L4 for Chiba. I do think that's fair. Levito's jump over on the change of foot has been very low this season, and she has been knocked down to level 3 about half of the time. She'll want to make the jump higher and more evident. She is a great spinner and shouldn't be giving away levels.

I’m a Mone fan but I would’ve given it to Isabeau. I wish Mone got a new SP this season. I admittedly found the Sakura Sakura program kind of dull but she might have eventually been able to make it work. This feels too much like old hat.

Mone - love the new costume but the program still feels like a little girl trying on mommie's dress. It is what it is but her team should have really put a little more effort into showing her what disco is all about (flirting. sex. drugs. etc.).

Isabeau - really wish she went with this direction for her free. Much better vehicle for her. Great skate but LUCKY to get no rotation calls on that toe.

Gutmann - don't love/get the program but assuming this is one of those "gonna play really well in Italy" programs cuz it's from a popular movie/tv show or something. SHRUG.

Nakai - miffed she got a q on the toe when some other obvious under rotations went ignored. Definitely felt the pressure here and it was very obvious from her tense, nervy skate. Hope she can pull up in the free.

Bradie - despite the combo (and lucky to just get a q on the lutz on not a <) was a nice skate for her. Kind of a sad/poignant program given where she is in her career.

Yuna - her calls were pretty harsh - thought the lutz should have been given the green light given the other overlooked rotation issues this evening. And the flip was about as rotated as others getting free passes or q's so the < seems rude.

Sarah - perplexes me that she has this sloppy technique given her coaches. She's slow to rotate and has a sluggish rotation position which will make her prone to q and <.

Sara-Maude - lots of tech call freebies here but...Blame Canada.

Yun - lovely piece of marble in DESPERATE need of a Michelangelo to bring out her potential.

Seniuk - generous rotation calls and getting a 4 on her step sequence was an early Christmas present. Her skating level is so novice ladies.

Shiryaeva - fine, ok, pleasant.

Maddie - ouch. Hope she comes back fighting in the long.

I think Mone loves that program even if she wouldn’t know a disco ball if it beaned her in the head. But Isabeau is so perfect in that program, she loves the retro and it totally works for her. (And even I could see Mone’s combo was short.)

I hope Levito wins tomorrow and gets the GPF, somehow.

Last post on this topic for me  but I think Nakai's 3A was much more rotated than Tennell's 3Lz+3T.. that one call was the most ridiculous of the night.

Yes, the inconsistency of tech calls has gotten out of whack the past couple of seasons. Personally I think they should station callers around the rink (if the viewing angle is SO integral to calls as they always claim) and have them operate independently and have the scores averaged. It's nonsense that the panel sits huddled together and has to reach CONSENSUS. Calling is just as subjective as judging and should be treated as such.

I am   over Isabeau Levito’s scoring and calling vs. Mone here. The slow mo on Mone’s double axel was definitely under but Chris said the panel didn’t even review it. Isabeau is such the total package with great interpretation and character in this music, wonderful smooth skating from one element to the next. No windmill arms at all, thank god (makes me a devoted fan for life because almost every other female skater windmills til the cows come home). Just the picture of classical, beautiful pure skating to the music overall standout.

I have always like Mone, but come on, she is no Donna Summer disco diva. I was disappointed to see her repeat this program, which I never really liked for her in the first place. Interpretation of the music nowhere near Isabeau’s. She does remind me very much of the style of Kristi Yamaguchi, very gentle and quiet feminine skater.

Ami is already getting reputation judging after one GP win it seems. This was no where in the same league of her first outing of this short program on the GP. I was surprised how high her score was with two jumping pass errors. She looked a lot more junior in presentation in this field too,

Well I love Yuna Aoki’s skating and movement on the ice so much. Don’t need to see her jump.😉

I was shocked at Sarah Everhardt’s score, just like she was. I didn’t see the underrotation on the lutz in the replay shown on Peacock. That was such a difficult program, packed with transitions and difficult moves. Yes, the dress was horrible and unflattering and yes we want more expression. But her technical was better overall than Ami and her mistakes, and her juniorish presentation.

Bradie….hmmm. Lots to admire and some great stuff in there like very fast spins and some nice mature movement, but also some sloppy windmill arms and unrefined moments.

Like Gutman a lot. Very enjoyable always with her own style. Reminds me a bit of Sonja Hilmer.

I just about barfed when I saw Tutberidze in the K&C with the Israeli skater. Is she Russian skating for Israel?
And is the new Canadian girl from Russia too? And why the heck is she with McCleod!?!? Save her!!

The tech panel was really bad at this event! Major uneven calling. Who is on this panel? Curses on Halloween 🎃 👻 🧙

I think that someone wanted to make sure that there was no costume malfunction, which might have been inevitable if the trsm designer had followed the inspiration and accompanying choreography more closely.

Born in Moscow. Her family moved to Canada a few years ago. According to her ISU bio, she never skated internationally for Russia, and she was given a release.

I assume they settled in the Vancouver area, if she's coached by McLeod. There are plenty of well-connected singles coaches in Ontario and Quebec.

I remember reading recently s'thing along the lines of - her parents asked around, who would be the best coach for her to train with in Canada and was told McLeod
