2025 Skate Canada Mens FS PBP - The Oh-Men

I can't get into Gogolev's programs, it always feels like he's forced to be out there and I just wait for him messing up.

Kevin is much more generous than me saying he looks more confident than he ever did.

And Ted lays it on even thicker - "he's a different skaker".

Not to me, Ted.

Well, I guess it's a pretty tech box with all that mixture of greens and reds (kind of Christmasy really). That performance was ..... inconsistent, to say the least. Sigh.

4S absolutely short to start. So messy throughout most of the other jumping passes and the +REP lost base points.

Sad to say whether Gogolev has had endless injuries or not, but he's typically good for one good program a competition. He went from what, 17th in the SP to 1st or 2nd in the LP at Canadian Nationals? He had one solid SP+LP competition this year and it seemed like people were eager to make him the leader in Canada but that was such an anomoly.

The program really doesn't fit his skating. He looks down, doesn't have lines, doesn't really listen to any of it.
I think he needs a more character driven program in order to really perform.

Gogolev

Lots of little errors on jumps, nice leg line on his jump exits even while he was struggling to hold on, presentation didn’t leave a lot of impression but he never gave up

In the k/c, Gogolev's shirt is a pretty shade of green. On the ice, it didn't show up so much on my screen. Didn't seem to be enough color contrast with the black pants.

Sadovsky ahead by 0.25 overall, not that it's gonna matter come January.

PCS at 72 for this is probably still generous but I'm surprised it even went that low.

Random thoughts about Gogolev's performance

I still can't believe he's only 20, he's been around so long.
Much better than previous years.
Agree with those who said the short program seemed more natural/comfortable on him, whereas this free was him following instructions.
This music will always belong to Lulu (first half) and MishDmit (second half).

Film recommendation: Brief Encounter, b&w film from the 1940s, beautiful use of Rach 2 throughout.
Definitely one of the top 5 romantic movies ever made. I agree about the Rach 2 usage.
It’s available on HBO/MAX.

I thought this started later and missed the first five. Anyone worth going back and watching? (NO, not Egadze!)
