2025 ISU GPF Women FS - MacArthur Park Cheat

Well luckily for Alyssa the ladies do tend to open the door for her. I don't know why the pressure cooker of the Olympics might be different.
If anything it will probably be worse. But the door won't have to be open as much if she reworks the program a bit. Not phoning it in will increase her PCS at least.

The closeness of Japanese Nationals and this event is a mental issue the Japanese Olympic team skaters won't have to deal with.

Alysa - congrats to her! she got the job done. largely due to the strength of her short program. wish she had a free that could cast the same kind of spell. i'd be happy to never see mac park again.

Ami - GORG 3A. who would have thought she'd be the highest ranking JPN woman here. Love her. Hate her long program music though. The singer has no understanding of this song at all. What made Louis Armstrong's interpretation of the song so brilliant was his warm, conversational tone - a cozy chat with an old friend. This song is not a vehicle for gratuitous vocal masturbation, esp with that singer's flat, icky voice.

Kaori - her power and presence are undeniable but I find this program pretty LITE on choreography. Still she is such a compelling skater, athlete and person - glad she was able to pull up for a medal even if Mone had to fall on her sword for it to happen.

Amber - kudos to her for coming back strong. She had to sacrifice speed and performance to get through the elements but happy she was able to pull up.

Mone - don't know if she heard the scores heading into her free, but if she did, must have been unnerving for the event to start with such big scores that only climbed. Good for her for coming back after two crash and burn falls. I feel like her place on the O team is still pretty secure. But gonna be a tense couple of weeks.

Rinka - hope she sticks around for another cycle as I've really grown to like her this season. Frankly she had some of the most interesting choreography and interpretation of the whole event. The pacing of her program makes zero sense but she has a great sense of musicality when she isn't laser focused on the jumps. And on that note I wish she would focus on one banger of a 3A and then getting through the rest of the jumps cleanly. Consistency means a lot and she's never gonna achieve that with such so much mental and physical energy spent on including the 3A+3T alongside a solo 3A.

Amber Glennnnnnnnnnn going into the final spin I was like is she gonna get 80 points in technical again… Like she did in Japan last year. A clean perfect program. I love it.

Amber’s free didn’t feel so wooden last year. Alysa let free after the last axel. She is so consistent with it I don’t see it changing for nationals or at all but maybe they will surprise. Sad for Mone but to me her short program score was ridiculous so I’m okay with her off the podium. Ami sparkled in her first Grand Prix but now I just see leg wrap. Kaori’s long is better than her short which isn’t saying much.

She got through it. Seemed cautious and not projecting out as much, but goodness - that was SO important for her to deliver and she did. Excellent program to head into Nats and beyond!

She had all green blurbs Besty I loved it, yeah, seem like she sacrificed a little bit of performance and speed to get all of the technical done. She got the second highest technical for the free program.

Had she got that triple axel, her best jump, in the short program she would for sure be in second overall maybe even first who knows.

Japan really should be allowed to send 4 men and 4 women. We run into this tragedy every 4 years.
I’ve always thought that the top 10 ranked athletes in any discipline should get spots even if that means that some sports like speed skating might look more like a national competition. Of course, there’d be lots of hand wringing over spots 7-10 and who deserves them.

@zigzig your comments on Rinka are spot on. She is growing on me because I'll take intensity over perk any day.

It is sad for the unlucky but I think it really pushed all of them to be at the top but honestly the Japan men are a bit of a mess besides Sato this season.

We’ll have to see how Japanese nationals goes, but it seems like the women’s Olympic team is set as Sakamoto, Nakai, and Chiba.
Which means, IIRC, that Ami and Amber are the only 3A skaters who can possibly medal in Milan. The Koreans don’t have it, Rion and Rinka won’t be there, and I’m betting against Petrosian for a whole host of reasons.

Either Alysa or Kaori will win the gold and I’m fine with that. Sofia is my pick for a surprise medal, although I don’t count Isabeau out.

Hey I never sacrifice sleep to watch skating or my plans for the day. Enjoyed all the free skates this evening.
WTH! Against all that Japanese fire power Alysa wins the GPF!!! Consistency will get you every where. I am a bit surprised Alysa isn’t upping her technical content or skating a new free. But hey maybe the party vibe will take her all the way to the Olympic podium. It’s her world and we’re here for the ride.

Almost certainly Ami will be the third skater on the Olympic team. Love her joyful vibe when it comes out …in the free it wasn’t until most of the jumps done. Don’t care for her free and she still performs and moves a bit junior. Bright future for her!

Kaori seemed sick or tired….a lot of angst on her face before and after she skated, but still mostly pulled it out. Though I thought her score was too high relative to others.

Amber is falling out of favor with the judges. I thought her program was right up there with the only the one wonky jump landing. What does she need to do besides project more confidence and bravado and less fear and apprehension.

Mone is usually a rock but every now and then has an epic meltdown.

Rinka’s hunchy skating doesn’t do much for me. I’m glad the panel looked at those jumps.

I don't see Ami as skating juniorish at all. She looks very young for sure and she has this cute smile, but her skating is big, and her expression and musicality are right up there for the material that she has. Her programs are light and fun and that's why people say she looks like a junior, but really, she doesn't. Just because someone looks like they are 15 doesn't mean they "skate like a junior". She is not awkward, her posture is great and she uses the music well.
