I liked what Ted Barton had to say at the end of the competition about how much support the sport of figure skating and the skaters need. You could feel his emotion as he spoke of no television coverage and his hope that it might return in the Olympic year. His plea for sponsors to step up and continue to contribute so that the sport of figure skating in Canada can survive and his request that we all do what we can to "spread the word" of this wonderful sport on our own devices over social media and anyway we can. He wore his passion for this sport on his sleeve and I found it a very moving speech. Thank you, Ted.

Well thank you Ted.

Due to there being no television coverage, I didn't watch the competition. It's a longstanding tradition for Mr. Japanfan and I to watch skating together on TV on a big screen - comfy on the couch with dinner and drinks at hand.

We don't want to sit in the office and watch at the computer, it's just not the same.

I actually didn't even bother to watch at the computer myself, although I've done so for other comps. Just not motivated.

And yes Ted is right that coverage needs to be provided during the Olympic year, for the sport to survive. CBC just seems hellbent on destroying it. :wuzrobbed

I sympathize with you - I really do. Im in a similar situation and I hate it. We couldnt see the GPS while it was happening because none of the links worked for us. We only got to see most of the GPS a couple of MONTHS after it was over. The TV company never shows it live or near live for some reason. They only show singles - dance or pair fans have to wait.

But for me part of the fun of watching ice dance is discussing it with other fans. But I cant take part if I haven't seen it. It's really frustrating, so I totally feel for you.

I don’t think CBC wants to destroy fs - they’ve got very limited funds these days and are responding to how most demographics are watching events, which is via streaming rather than broadcast TV. Assuming one has a smart tv, it’s fairly easy to watch CBC Gem and ISU YouTube streams on one’s television. But I realize that for some folks figuring this out is hard and not everyone has the right tech to do so. My late mother in law loved watching figure skating on tv, but there’s no way she would have been able to figure out how to watch an online stream on her computer, much less her on her tv.

I do hope CBC will have TV broadcast highlights of Worlds as they did last year but if the ISU is still charging too much for the rights, that’s not going to happen.
