2025 Canadian Jr. & Sr. Sectionals/Challenge

Hetty Shi takes the lead with a 58.28. The flip was only called q which seems generous but a good skate for her.

The daily motion feed video and audio is out of sync by several seconds for me and is super annoying.

The final group of 5 all showcased some really good skating and expression to/of their music!

Parker Heiderich (Les Miz, incl. "I Dreamed a Dream" performed by Karl Loxley) started strong with 3F, 3Lz+2T & 3Lo but doubled a few jumps later.

David Howes (piano version of "The Sound of Silence") - skated with beautiful posture, stretch & extensions! Landed 3Lz+3T and most of his triples well. His musicality is a pleasure to watch. 198.73. SILVER

William Chan (Newsies, including "Seize the Day") 118.67 FP, 187.75 in 3rd.

David Shteyngart ("Abracadabra" & "Witchcraft" by Milana Zilnik) - landed two 3-3s and had a decent 3A attempt. 128.28 FP, 197.41 3rd. BRONZE

Edward Nicholas Vasii ("November Rain" by Guns N Roses) - opened with 3A+2A & 3A (flawed landings) and was very much into his music. 183.49 5th.

I'll definitely watch the replay of the junior men (hopefully it works today). That's a great free skate score for Bondar.

Sigh I was really pulling for Maya Isabelle who I've watched on streams for several years now and has never qualified for nationals. She even missed qualifying for Challenge last year and switched to Ontario this year. Falls on the triple lutz and triple loop so so no combo.

That 2Z is gonna hurt for Fee-Ann Landry.

Her dress is beautiful, but I have to say she looks more like she’s should be skating to Salome rather than this cover of Hit the Road Jack.

Another Sigh, Landry popped her lutz to a double but the rest was really good. Particularly the opening double axel which was huge and always impresses me.

Brave for Lussier to do the triple lutz so late in the program. I thought she had it too before going down. Very nice interpretation.

It's an all-David podium in junior men! I remember a few years ago when David Bondar and David Shteyngart were on the podium together in novice, along with David Li, who has moved up to senior this year.

Roccatani (I'm glad the announcer corrected the pronunciation) did not have a great skate. She showed so much promise at 2023 nationals, especially with her short program. A shame she hasn't been able to build on it. Interesting Orser is with her in the kiss and cry (along with her usual coach Karen Preston).

Scores taking a looooong time in senior men. At this rate the zamboni will be done and the women will be back on the ice before Alec Guinzbourg gets his scores!

Brian Chiem had a really scary-looking fall (toepick slipped on takeoff and he was basically horizontal in the air), and he has popped almost every jump after that. :(

Yikes I hope he’s okay. He looked really off balance at the end.

Argh. Bruce is such a beautiful skater, but he's really not a jumper.

I assume at this point he must actively be choosing singles over dance; if he wanted to go back to dance, there would probably be no shortage of women wanting to skate with him. Can we pair him up with Emmy Bronsard?

Wow, Pomerleau was great! The 2nd jump in her 3t3t combo looked under, but otherwise that was a really strong program.

That was a great performance by Pomerleau to the music "toxic." I thought her second triple toe looked two footed but the GOE on the tracker wasn't that bad so maybe not.

Pomerleau into second. Her combo was under rotated. She's been close to Skate Canada's target score for an international before so I'm always pulling for her.

Breken Brezden exudes so much joy out there. Could she package that and sell me some please?! Oops no combo today. Risky to do that in the second half. She's still smiling though! (during the program at least. She briefly looked unhappy after her final pose).

Brezden into 8th with a 50.73. She proved in Nice she can come back in the long so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

LOL on Skate Canada's instgram they wrote "The Davids understood the assignment 👏"

Her TES was over 30 on the tracker. This should easily move into at least 2nd. She was great two seasons ago and really struggled last year and didn't qualify for nationals. So happy to see this.

Oh her TES dropped by a couple of points. So she's in second but not so easily

ETA her triple toe was under rotated
