BRONZE Sofia JARMOC / Luke WITKOWSKI USA 148.31 3 3

2025 & 2026 Junior champs Reagan Moss/Jakub Galbavy had a successful competition:
Their scores -- 60.95 in SP, 102.17 in FS, 163.12 total -- won't count as ISU personal or season bests but they are the highest scores that they've ever receieved internationally, so a good confidence booster heading into Junior Worlds!

Sofia Jarmoc/Luke Witkowski won the bronze:

Michael Chapa's post (and he and his first year partner Kaitlyn Oh placed 6th of 10 in their international debut):

Four Junior pairs will compete at the Bavarian Open in Oberstdorf GER this week - Olivia Flores/Luke Wang (their warmup for Junior Worlds), Milada Kovar/Jared McPike, Elizabeth Yun/Mitchell Castelletti, and Giuliana Gariti/Matthew Curtis (latter 2 teams placed 9th & 10th at the U.S. Pairs Final in November 2025).

Press release from the Army about their 6 WCAP athletes who have qualified for the Winter Olympics, including Pvt Spencer Howe.

Howe, who aspires to be an Army chaplain, saw God working in mysterious ways during the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Jan. 4-11 in St. Louis.

Howe and his partner, Emily Chan, secured their first Olympic berths despite placing eighth in the short program. Howe said they needed a miracle to qualify for the 2026 Games.

Prayers were answered in the form of a third-place finish in the free skate program.

I learned a lot about Ellie Kam's family in this feature article by Katie Kerwin McCrimmon that I enjoyed reading:
Both Ellie and Danny had faced health challenges, including literal broken bones for him and tough concussions for her. They were an unlikely duo, and yet, they were succeeding with beautiful athleticism and artistry on ice. Plus, Ellie, now 21, has deep ties to Japan. Her mother grew up in Japan, and Ellie was born there while her dad served as a surgeon for the U.S. Air Force.
Her dad, Dr. Benjamin Kam, is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy who went on to earn his medical degree and a master’s in public health before serving for more than 23 years around the world in the Air Force as a combat flight surgeon and an orthopedic surgeon. Kam now cares for patients at UCHealth Orthopedics Clinic-Park West in Pueblo.
Ellie’s mom, Mako Kam, is from Japan. A decision to come to Colorado as an exchange student set her on a path to meet her future husband.
While Benjamin Kam was a cadet at the Air Force Academy in the early 1990s, Mako was a student at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, studying applied math.
Friends wanted to set the two up. Mako was best friends with a captain’s wife from the Academy. Mako first had come to Colorado Springs as a foreign exchange student in high school. She always loved fitness and was a runner. She’s from the region of Japan near Colorado Springs’ sister city, Fujiyoshida. Much like Colorado Springs, which sits at the base of beautiful Pikes Peak, Fujiyoshida lies at the foot of Mount Fuji. After high school, Mako decided to stay in Colorado for college. Benjamin Kam’s ancestors come from both Japan and China. He was born and raised in Hawaii.
He still marvels that his first assignment as an orthopedic surgeon happened to be in Japan, which enabled him to get to know his wife’s family. Ellie was born on Yokota Air Base during their tour of duty in Japan. Her brothers, Zane, 25, and Kai, 23, followed in their dad’s footsteps and both earned appointments to the U.S. Air Force Academy. Both are on active duty with the Air Force.
Discipline clearly was part of the Kam family’s DNA.
Ellie narrates this unlisted video (Jan. 26, 2026) about her figure skating journey that's embedded in the article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmRAlwzYKgE

Ellie’s dad got his MD and Masters at Tulane, my alma mater 😊 I was in the elevator with Ellie’s parents at 2023 Nationals and was wearing my Tulane hoodie, and it caught his eye right away! They were both so friendly.

^^^ I usually don't post links to Instagram stories since they disappear after 24 hours - for those who can't view, Danny posted a photo of him, Ellie, Emily/Spencer and Max at night (they all arrived in Milan last night), sitting on an Olympic Rings platform (ETA at the airport, I was told). For those with Kiss & Cry Access, I just created a thread today in the Olympics subforum for this type of content: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/news-fluff-via-social-media-figure-skating-focus.113649/

Today UC Health posted excerpts from their story on Ellie/Danny (post #728 above):

@Vagabond has shared a gift link to Juliet Macur's NYT article on Maxim, published today on the first anniversary of his parents' death, in the U.S. Men's thread: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...-the-mere-mortals.112914/page-27#post-6879752

Here's a lovely excerpt about Spencer :):
Naumov said Howe’s friendship and willingness to share his Christian faith meant a lot to him as he navigated his grief.
In 2022, when Naumov nearly quit the sport because he was sick of being injured and was clashing with his parents on the ice, he asked to stay at Howe’s place for a few months. He worked at Starbucks as a barista while taking college classes online.
They clicked so well that Naumov stayed until he moved back into his parents’ house last year. They have been through a lot together, and even go to church together.
“I have so much respect and so much love for my brother because, again, he could have gone the opposite way,” Howe said. “What’s made me the proudest to see is that, through all this tragedy, he’s looking for a silver lining instead of letting it tear him apart inside.”
