2025-26 US Pairs Discussion - Milano-Bound By Way of Beijing & St. Louis

Just my view, but I think she could be a great pair girl. And frankly, I’m surprised it has taken this long for it to happen. It’s been clear for like 6-7 years that it wasn’t going to happen for her in singles.

She has some decent basic skating, nice body line and extension, has at least an inkling of performance quality and enough jumps to succeed at this on paper.

But starting fresh in a new discipline at nearly 25 will be a challenge. Not impossible, but learning pairs is a skill that can take time.

Starr says that her consistent toe, salchow, and loop are part of the reason she gets asked to do pairs. That might help a little on the throws, but I'm guessing that people are mostly thinking of the SBS jumps. But, her ability to do these jumps will only be helpful if her partner can do them, too. So, which guy can consistently land those jumps?

Here's how US Pairs is looking going into Sectionals where the field will be rounded out with the final 3 teams

SENIOR PAIRS INTL Top Score
Kam/O'Shea 199
Efimova/Mitrofanov 193
Chan/Howe 193
McBeath/Parkman 187
Liu/Bedard 181
Shin/Nagy 179
Plazas/Fernandez 179
Flores/Wang 161
Williams/Lewer 159

There are only 4 senior teams competing at the Pairs Final next week, two of whom are not even close to having the Nationals CTES min. I wonder if the USFS will fill out the field of 12 or leave it at 11 teams.

ETA - Fitzpatrick/Bearinger are also just short of the Nats CTES min, but I expect that they'll manage to get it next week or an exception will be made as they're within .35 of the CTES min.

I think a lot depends on the progress Nate and his partner have made since the last comp, when I am assuming they did watered down tech due to maybe an injury or just her being newer to pairs, or both, I am not sure which...

Wasn't Liu and her partner skating to literally the same music in the SP or was that the long? This change makes no sense to me at all.
Yup! I just looked at their ISU bios. Liu/Bedard and Shin/Nagy are both skating to "Two Men In Love" for their FS. This change really doesn't make any sense. There aren't any other Godfather programs in pairs this season that I can recall off the top of my head and their SP itself was fine. The FS was a snooze though.

McFarland/Andjorin are listed as WD from the Sr Pairs Final, which leaves just 3 teams trying to qualify for 3 spots at Nationals. It wouldn't surprise me, if Bailey/Bartholomay are appreciably improved but still miss the Nats CTES, if all three teams advance.
