Luka's tie unfortunately blends with his vest in a way that makes it look like he's wearing a 6-foot tie.

LOL - Luka's struggling with his SBS jumps again - how do the judges not give that combo a negative GOE? Won't matter how clean Anastasiia is, he'll find a way to blame her for anything less than perfection. I need to find the one non-Russophile MetBeru-stan out there who can explain to me why their programs aren't terrible.

I think they’re getting luggage along with medals and flowers on the podium

My main takeaway from this competition is how sorry I am for Brooke. I wondered in the past who dumped who and I feel like we got the answer. She mustn't have had a lot of options because I just don't get any chemistry with this new pairing. To have the experience her and her new partner have and barely beat a new team from Iceland where the female only started learning pair elements a few months ago isn't encouraging. I had much higher expectations.

Marco was a pretty decent partner when he skated with Barquero, and someone with Brooke's resume would have had her pick of pretty much any decent pairs male available and looking for a partner. Having said that, she is on the tall side for pairs, so some of the really talented guys who we KNOW were looking (Nagy, Siianytsia, Piazza, even Bouvart) are a good 15cm shorter than Mimar & Zandron.

I don't recall enough about the history of their partnership to state this with any degree of certainty, but I feel like the last season or so was derailed more to her injuries than it was Mimar. What's interesting to me is how easily it seems like Canada gave Brooke her release - now whether that's because her family has the money to repay whatever $$ she received as a high level Canadian skater or if there were other factors we aren't privy to, but I'd bet that if her family had that kind of $$ then they could have just as easily found her a tall Russian guy to emigrate to Canada rather than have her make the country switch.

I don't know what her family's financial situation is, but it would have been ugly had Skate Canada been as ungenerous as they were legally able to by refusing a release to the sister of a three-time Olympic gold medalist and media darling in Canada who is all of 18.

Marco was injured and they have had very little practice from what I hear.
Well that's good to hear, well not good but good ;) I like to see athletes fulfil their potential so I admit to being a bit  when I watched them.

Agree that it certainly helped who she is related to and also the family is fairly well off. So there is money I am sure to pay anything Skate Canada may have requested.

@Karen-W It's because of Brooke's height that I didn't think she would have had a lot of options. Also I think the family has the money to "rent a Russian" but there are a lot of reasons I can think of as to why they wouldn't want to do that.

Oh, I'm sure there are plenty of good reasons to not want to do that too, which is why I think country-switching was the better option. Her height certainly did limit her choices, but if I'm being honest, I never saw a lot of long-term potential in the partnership with Mimar. I can recall a LOT of competition PBP discussions where the majority of FSU thought they had zero personality/no identity and their programs/packaging was just bland and/or wrong for them.

Here's the thing, I do think we can have a relative degree of confidence in the long-term potential of McIntosh/Zandron, even if this competition didn't show it yet. The team Savin has assembled with Klimov in Sochi & Seegert in Berlin are producing some good results with their teams - Hase/Volodin are the most successful, but we've seen steady improvements from Danilova/Tsiba over the last few years, and Chtchetinina/Wozniak made a huge leap between last season and this season. They've definitely been slowed by Zandron's injury and may not make it to Euros unless Golden Spin goes much better, but that doesn't mean they can't and won't make rapid improvements once they get a solid chunk of training time under their belts.
