Gunnarsdottir/Piazza - SBS 3t - very nice!; 2tw - good; very solid lift - his pairs experience really is coming through here; throw 3s - she fell; death spiral - she was really low but they only got a Base level; nice synch on their SBS spins; ohhhh, random fall on their step sequence by him. Well, that started off really well and then sort of went off the rails there. At least they got their Euros CTES min last week.

Faula/Belle - 3tw - okay; SBS 3s - down he goes; throw 3lo - slides across the ice she does; good lift; nice death spiral; unremarkable step sequence; they aren't even trying to be in synch on these spins - oh, they kind of got it back there on the last position. They are better than last season.

DanTsi - this program is supposed to highlight their chemistry? Coulda fooled me, lol. 3tw - nice; SBS 3s - he doubled and she then fell; throw 3f - beautiful; death spiral - fine; lift - very fast across the ice; step sequence - I guess there's some passion; hey, Michel didn't want Spencer Howe to feel alone in botching the SBS spins this season!

Ehrhard/Pellegris - 3tw - bit low; SBS 2a - they stayed up; throw 3s - again, she stayed up; SBS spins - okay; step sequence - same; lift - eh; death spiral - nice. They're mid, even for a junior team, and I don't feel like they're really getting better, but maybe something will click once they move to seniors full time.

Vouillamoz/Bouvart - I said this in the general Pairs discussion thread - I don't know how the FFSG missed the boat and let this team go, but Switzerland's putting themselves in the TE mix. 3tw - huge; SBS 3t - rock solid; throw 3lo - swishy; lift - fast and solid; death spiral - nice; step sequence - looks like she forgot the choreo there for a sec, but got right back into is; SBS spins - could use some work - far apart & out of synch. Seriously - France really let this team slip through their fingers.

Kucianova/Bidar - 3tw - barely caught her before she was on the ice; SBS 3t - she doubled; throw 3f - kinda small but okay; lift - okay; death spiral - eh; SBS spins - terrible... I don't see him making another trip to the Olympics - the level of pairs is much higher than 4 years ago and this partnership is a downgrade from Zukova.

McIntosh/Zandron - I guess his injury is part of why she was able to enjoy the Summer Olympics in person with her sister. 3tw - bit crashy; SBS 3s - she was a bit off-kilter on her landing; throw 3lo - pitched forward on the landing; lift - slow; step sequence - not bad; death spiral - eh; SBS spins - Marco's joining that club with Spencer & Michel, lol. Hmmmm... Well, Marco is taller & a better physical match for Brooke than Benjamin; and you can definitely see just how new they are. Reserving judgement at this time.

After 2 of 4 groups, ice resurfacing is underway. Results so far:

Holichenko/Darenskyi - 3tw - nice; SBS 3s - excellent; throw 3lo - down she goes; good lift; death spiral - good; step seq - eh; SBS spins - okay. Better looking than they were at their JGP outing.

Caldara/Maglio - I'm a horrible person because I really kind of just want to ignore them, but I can't because they might wind up the 3rd Italian team at Euros if BecGuar aren't healthy. SBS 2a - she fell; 3tw - okay; throw 3lo - eh; lift - she's tilted and not parallel to the ice - terrible technique; death spiral - eh; same for step seq & SBS spins. So slow and boring, and the music just fades away.

Bombardier/Mimar - 3tw - crashy & not very high; SBS 3s - very nice! Lift - she was kind of bouncing around in the air; throw 3lz - good; death spiral - okay; step seq - eh; same for SBS spins. Not too shabby for a debut - LaurEth have competition for the 3rd Worlds spot.

Izzo/Maierhofer - 2tw - okay; throw 3f - elegant pop; SBS 3f - good; death spiral - no value - she didn't get low enough; lift fail; well, this is pretty much a disaster - at least they already got their Worlds CTES min at IceChallenge a couple weeks ago; step seq - okay; SBS spins - eh. Yeah, folks should go back and watch their IceChallenge SP rather than this one.

Roscher/Schuster - throw 3z - she two-footed the landing; 3tw - good; SBS 2a - she two-footed again; lift okay; SBS spins - okay; same for step seq & death spiral. Well, at least they have the Euros CTES mins - can't see them getting the Worlds mins.

Vaipan-Law/Digby - 3tw - nice; SBS 2a - solid; good lift; throw 3s - very nice; death spiral - good; step seq - fine; SBS spins - pretty decent! Their music is not helping my desire to go to sleep. Just two teams to go...

Martins/Bedard - 3tw - crashy; SBS 3s - she doubled; throw 3s - very nice; step seq - not bad; death spiral - okay; SBS spins - eh; ending choreo was rough. Well, that was an improvement over NHK. We'll see how they look in another 2 weeks at Golden Spin. ANL may have some hope left.

Those who have seen Metelkina/Berulava no the rink - are they as painfully slow as it looks on the stream?

Metelkina/Berulava - 3tw - fine; throw 3lz - good; SBS 3s - she went down; lift - good; this program is just so terrible; step seq - fine; death spiral - ugly-assed grab calf position for her; SBS spins - they are really close together, out of synch on last couple positions. Meh. I'd have them behind VLDigs today.

Couldn't have said it better about the appeal of this program @Karen-W
I had the great fortune to get interrupted and missed all but a few seconds of this "performance" and was not even tempted to rewind - the replays were more than enough to get through for me. This says a lot for me as pairs is my favourite discipline and I can usually find a lot to appreciate in every performance. For these 2 only the slow mo replay of the positive individual elements was worth watching.

LOL - is it wrong that I double-checked Julia Sylvia's dress to make sure she didn't borrow it from Valentina Plazas?

So, Gabbie fell on both her throws and yet she and Luc are going to be in 1st by almost 5 points at the end of this first group. And that was with them being down by about 5 points from the SP from the last team in this group.

Those are my notes for the first group.

ETA - Faula/Belle managed to finish 9pts & 4 pts behind two brand-new teams.
