All the tiles are up on Gem - open Gem, go to Live TV, scroll down to Sports and they're all there.

Did you go with a paid or free vpn, I previously had a bad experience with a free vpn so was looking at a free 7 day trials with a decent vpn company? Then will cancel on Sunday? Maybe I will see how cbc gem is tomorrow but i do prefer YouTube ISU

We've had Witopia for years and have found it to be reliable.

I have PureVPN - it's a paid one that I have been very satisfied with.

My brother-in-law always said free VPN was useless. I never used one though. CBC gem works great for me though. I watch it on my iPad.

I'm bookmarking this thread and would very much appreciate if someone could post the direct CBC archive links for each event once available as I'd prefer to watch on TV rather than my laptop screen (though we'll see if I give in for the later women's sp groups lol). I don't trust navigating their site without getting spoiled. Thanks!
 
Please post if you find a Canada friendly version of the women’s short so I can pass on to my daughter who missed it while at work.
 
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but has anyone figured out how to access the previously-recorded coverage (e.g. of the women's short program) through the Gem tv app? I'm trying to avoid the CBC website because it's always full of spoilers, and I would also prefer to watch on my tv rather than my computer.

I can find the pairs SP in the "live & upcoming" section, but I can't find any recordings of previous coverage. I'm probably just looking in the wrong spot. :shuffle:

GEM doesn't archive sports events, but the CBC Sports link @danafan provided above will take you directly to the replay without having to go through any spoilers.

If you get brave enough you can scroll down on this page until you get to the "Replays" section to find the links yourself. It's the 4th of 5 sections on the page.


Just keep your eyes away from any titles in the "Most Recent" and "Highlights" section if you want to stay unspoiled.

I don't see any spoilers there, just full event replays from all the sports.
 
I am very confused by CBC opting to air a show on GEM while the competition is going on - it is said to be a daily highlights package with CDN focus and with Kurt, Carol, & Brenda but was scheduled for 8 p.m. yesterday, 7 p.m. today, etc.
I chose to watch the live stream of the full events.
Did anyone actually watch it?
 
Well the last part of it was live coverage of the last 2 groups of Pairs.

As for the confusion as to why - well this is what used to happen with their TV broadcasts when they showed more days of the competition. They would come on air while live competition was ongoing, show some tape-delayed stuff for the first hour, then join in the live action for the second part of the show. The only difference is that they are no longer putting this combo program on TV and are only streaming it.

I watched the live part but I'm going to watch the tape-delayed part today between live coverage from the replay link I posted above.
 
well the live coverage on cbc gem keeps getting interrupted by old video from yesterday or a screen saying 'this program has ended' i have contacted CBC and suggest others do as well.. really do not like CBC gem - crap app unless watching on lap top or tablet.

The sounds became unbearably glitchy for a good while too.
 
Yup there was some crazy stuff happening on GEM. Fortunately most of them lasted only a couple of seconds and iirc only one came at the expense of a jump element.

On the other hand,the quality of the ISU YouTube stream was not the greatest for the last 4 or 5 groups so I stuck it out with GEM. I installed OPERA yesterday and used the free VPN feature to select "Europe". apparently I got an IP for the Netherlands. Opera does warn that going through a VPN can impact quality so I'm thinking that's what happened once more people connected.

Anyway by the time USA Network went live for the last 2 groups, GEM was working well again.

Yeah most of the cbc app issues depends where you live, like some it’s the sound and others it’s the interuptions, usually I get it fine and can air play it to the tv but they do need to upgrade it so smart tv can download the app.
 
A lot of wet and heavy snow just starting here and expected to continue until Saturday morning. My power has always been sketchy here so it could go out and ruin my live streaming. Got my fingers crossed.

Thank you for this - I completely forgot Opera had a VPN. I can't use it to watch specific country content so forgot about altogether.
