2020 IdF has been canceled

ISU press release today: https://www.isu.org/isu-news/news/1...ationaux-de-france-cancelled?templateParam=15

19 October 2020

The ISU was informed of the cancellation of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating – Internationaux de France, that was scheduled to take place from November 13-15, 2020 in Grenoble (FRA).

Following the announcement from the French President Emmanuel Macron on October 14, 2020 to put in place a curfew in the Grenoble area and in consultation with the City of Grenoble, the FFSG made the difficult decision to cancel the event. They closely monitored the health authorities position on COVID-19 but given the evolution of the health crisis and their prudence for the health and safety of the athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers, the appropriate course of action was for the FFSG to cancel the event.

The ISU regrets that the hosting of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating – Internationaux de France is no longer viable and thanks the FFSG for their continued effort and support.

Following the recent announcements of the French President Emmanuel Macron concerning the Covid-19, the French Federation, in agreement with Grenoble Alpes Métropole, is sad to announce the cancellation of the Internationaux de France, initially planned from November 13 to 15

What to Know
While both canceled and cancelled are acceptable for the past tense of cancel, the version with one L is more common in American English, while the version with two L's is more common in British English. American English typically only doubles the consonant when the stress is on the syllable attached to the suffix, as in remit and remitting.

No. But soccer is played outside, it seems it makes all the difference. + they can play with no audience and still earn money thanks to astronomic TV rights.
They play league games in Handball in France. That's indoor. Probably other indoor sports as basketball and others as well.

Too bad. I can’t imagine China, Russia or NHK being cancelled. I could imagine SkAm...but it’s happening in a few days. That choo-choo has left the station....

China Gp, Russia GP, and NHK will mostly happen I think. SkAm will likely to happen. But with all of this, how can GPF happen given that they want to postpone it? Or is it a tournament of whoever has enough willpower to show up?

The Olympic test event (originally the GPF) was postponed. Perhaps there will be a different competition for the test event? I don't see a final happening now that two events have been cancelled (so far).

It's been "postponed", technically.

Though in theory if they were somehow able to arrange having it later in the year, they could just as easily hold SCI and IdF at that point too.
SCI and IdF have been officially cancelled though? If they somehow have these events postponed to wait for a new GPF date, I am afraid it would be in January-March but then remember we have Worlds in Sweden in danger...

Yes, they've been officially cancelled, but everybody involved in this is flying by the seats of their pants.

I don't expect a Final to happen at this point (indeed, I'm increasingly thinking that Euros is the only ISU event in the second half of the season that has the slightest chance of happening), I'm just saying that if it did, they could just as easily revive the cancelled Grand Prix events. Indeed, that would be easier than the Final given there's less international travel involved.

True, but given that we might not have a safer situation in Jan-March I highly doubt they would re-schedule anything in time for all of those events to happen. Such a horrible time.

Can they work around the curfew then? Do they have to skate the competitions after 9 PM? Is that why the event basically has been canceled because of the curfew that was instituted? If so just have the programs start at noon.

Anyway no sense for me crying over spilled milk. Now spilled Grey Goose on the other hand… Child…

Leave it up to ANL to make lemonade out of lemons. ?

ETA: on the rocks, of course! ;)

Google translated excerpt:
The capital of the Alps was to host this figure skating competition for the fourth consecutive year. The FFSG has already announced that its 2021 edition will be held in Grenoble. "We are disappointed and sad to have to give up the organization of the Internationaux de France, which we were impatiently awaiting. But the health of all those who work on this type of event is a priority", regrets the president of the Federation, Nathalie Péchalat, in the same press release, highlighting those who "have worked tirelessly for this demonstration to take place".
The president of Grenoble-Alpes metropolis, Christophe Ferrari, expressed his "deep disappointment for our territory to have to give up the Internationaux de France in 2020, a sporting and artistic meeting that has become essential for 4 years in the metropolis" . The chosen one makes an appointment in 2021 for the next edition and looks forward "to a future that we all hope to be happier".

FFSG had already changed the schedule to comply with the curfew.
Is that why the event basically has been canceled because of the curfew that was instituted?
No it's not. Basically, it's been canceled because Grenoble is in a red zone, and it was impossible to comply with all the safety measures. The decision was not made by FFSG but by the regional administrative council after they had a virtual meeting.

If so just have the programs start at noon.
If only it had been so easy... And that's roughly what FFSG had done with issuing a new schedule.
