"There are two Finnish Championship qualifiers, one of which will be competed in Espoo on November 14-15. day. From both qualifiers, 6 seniors and 10 juniors will redeem their seats in the Finnish Championships. In addition, last year’s medalist(s) will have an automatic seat to the Finnish Championships if he (or she) continues to compete in the same series [level, I assume]. The Finnish Championships will be held in Joensuu on 18–20. December."

Junior Men SP won by Matias LINDFORS (55.80); Junior Ladies won by Olivia LISKO (48.30).

We went to watch today with our usual crew. It was really great to be watching a live competition again! It was the Finlandia Trophy arena so there was plenty of space to keep distance since there weren't a lot of people. I'd say between 50 and 100 overall.

The senior men and ladies were quite meh, to be honest. Not much to write about. Saarinen popped her first 3 jumps. Regrouped well after that but still, 3 pops is 3 pops.

Ice dance was great though! Turkkila/Versluis had last year's FD (they only got to compete once with that last season since she was injured all of the early half of the season) and IMO it's lovely! The ending with the slide moves is beautiful! Orihara/Pirinen had a new FD to the Mission and it was also great although still a little raw.

Reed/Ambrulevicius were also scheduled to compete here originally but in the end didn't. Don't know why.

Honestly my biggest highlight was Viveca Lindfors' little brother Matias skating to Rocketman. He is a fabulous performer, at least on Finnish junior boys standards. And he also has a really nice 3lz, just like his sister. Overall he's still very coltish and his skating and jumps are a little wild and uncontrolled (he's 13 but looks more like 10 ). Hope he can get some more power and strength and control with time. But overall he really has charisma and is great to watch - I think he got the biggest applause of the day. I expect we'll see him on the JGP circuit next season.

Junior girls top 2 were great as well! Olivia Lisko, who won with 5 triples, is a really lovely all-around skater. Very nice basics and SS, good speed into jumps, great performer, very enjoyable! I really like her skating! Second in junior girls was a tiny little 12-year-old Iida Karhunen who did 7 triples(!) but to be honest, her jump quality and speed are nowhere near as good as Lisko (at least at this point). She's really tiny so her jumps seem to rely a lot on just having super quick rotation, there was not much speed into them. We'll see how that develops! I'm a little discouraged knowing her coach is a Russian-born (also transphobic, but that's another story) woman who seems to have several skaters just the way Eteri prefers hers - tiny bodies that rely a lot on rotation.

I also expect to see these two girls on the JGPs next season (well, not sure Iida will be eligible as I'm not sure about her birth date) along with Janna Jyrkinen, who won the Volvo Cup junior ladies event last week.

Overall, a fun day at the rink!
