Your idea of a non-lazy choice is Moulin Rouge? LOLOLOL.

How could you possibly know what mood she is comfortable with? Frank Sinatra seems like a better fit to you? LOL again. She is hardly a "little girl" by any definition these days. I've never been a fan, but it's good that she is open to trying new things after the sleep-inducing programs she's had in the past. Let's face it...she isn't going to be a top contender ever again, so she should do exactly what she wants.

When you consider what Wagner did with it, that was my context. Has any single skater ever done 50 Shades justice on ice ever? Does Maria have the chops to even pull this off without it being vulgar or ridiculous looking? I mean on so many levels, Mary Poppins would have been a better choice for her or even Amelie, LOLLOLLWOL. Just so sad, IMHO. But as you rightly said it's her career.

I personally enjoyed Vanessa James/Morgan Cipres '17-'18 short program to "Earned It" from 50 Shades, very much.

I actually find the concept of Masha skating to 50 Shades quite intriguing. Since last season, she seems interested in branching out and trying different styles. Honestly, she could probably reuse her FS dress from last season- it screams more "50 Shades" than "Summertime" to me LOL.

When the 50 Shades books were popular, my bookstore received a CD from the publisher with all the classical music that the unlikable male character played on the piano for the unlikable female character. I've not seen the movies, so when I hear complaints about the soundtrack, all I can think is, but its just random classical music! Why the :drama:.

Fifty Shades has a good soundtrack, if nothing else. James/Cipres’ short program was excellent.

James/Cipres vs Maria Sotskova colour me perplexed as to how this could work without ehem, confidence. Oh well, maybe the child will surprise me.

Bigbird, you're making me think Maria Sotskova sounds like the perfect person to skate to this since you make her sound like the lead character before she discovers her sexuality and the "freedom" that comes with it. Which is what I'm assuming the movie/book is about judging from the trailers and what people have said about it.

Maria Sotskova
SP: "To Build A Home" [by The Cinematic Orchestra ft. Patrick Watson], choreo. by Nikolai Morozov
FS: Music from the Fifty Shades of Grey film soundtrack, choreo. by Nikita Mikhailov

Surprised she is continuing. I wonder what she will get sent to. I need to check her World Standing placement.

I wouldn't even consider her top 10 of Russian ladies for 19-20.

She's continuing because her last competition (Russian Nationals) did not end well. She decided she wants to compete again. I suspect she just wants to quit on a good note and not sobbing uncontrollably in the KnC. Who knows what will happen this season, but she should be guaranteed a GP spot and can do as many Russian Cup and/or Challengers as she wants/has time. If she gets to Russian Nationals (and she would as long as she does a GP event), she can do her best and then decide where she goes from there.

Wasn't her last event actually Universiade?

Maria Sotskova
FS: Music from the Fifty Shades of Grey film soundtrack)

Rika Hongo
SP: Kill Bill
FS: Ghost in the Shell (chore by Shae-Lynn Bourne)

Hell yes! I love both of these choices. :cheer: Will we FINALLY get a Hongo/McLeod K&C this season?

What do people want from Sotskova? Another Schitke program? :p

Sotskova has the ability to transform a regular sleeping person into a coma patient.
Her doing this soft porn stuff is so so so wrong.

I love Sotskova! She is a sweet, sensitive, highly musical skater who gives her programmes everything she can. People are free to dislike her music, but I wish they'd give her a break once in a while!

I love her too! She has such an elegant, lyrical style, and really nice edges. I hope she gets a Grand Prix assignment!

I agree that Fifty Shades has a very good soundtrack. Good music is always good for skating.:D

A soundtrack from a pornographic film has absolutely no place in our sport. I’m distressed so many don’t even bat an eyelash at the vulgar implications this sets.

There are plenty of classical pieces already being skated to that have vulgar implications and James/Cipres have skated to the soundtrack and it seems like the world did not end. Anyways, I’m going to guess Maria won’t be doing a literal interpretation so we won’t see any whips or ball gags on the ice.

Fifty Shades is a would-be erotica. That threshold in figure skating was crossed at least by the time of Wötzel & Steuer's Basic Instinct program (a far more explicit movie).

It's Twilight fanfiction with a lot of stalking, emotional, physical abuse, consent issues, etc. It's great family fun!

What about so many skaters using Kill Bill music? That movie is violent beyond words (and I love it).

On the other hand, I believe we are over-concerned about Sotskova's interpretation skills. :p
