‘26-27 Site Rumors Nationals & Skate America

October/November is a long time from the Olympics. Unless they have a location and lock in ticket sales on the wave, most casual fans would have had multiple sports events and championships in between to grab their attention.

If USFS doesn't book somewhere pretty soon, they are going to end up with a very small venue. I nominate the Oakland Ice Center.

I just called the Salt Lake Sports Complex and they confirmed they only have bleacher seats for skating viewing. 😢

Looking at the logistics and expenses to get to Everett, i'm thinking Skate Canada might be a better option. I hope we get an announcement before SA tix go on sale next Thursday.
There's public transportation from SeaTac to Everett - not a short trip (looks like it takes about 2 hours) but certainly cheap. And lots of cheap flights from all over the country to SeaTac - I saw some non-stop flights from NYC to SeaTac on Google Flights for under $300 when I looked earlier. It's a bit more expensive from other parts of the East Coast but none of it seems nearly as onerous as getting to Lake Placid was for anyone who wasn't willing to make the drive from pretty much anywhere on the East Coast.

First time in a while both are actually accessible to me. Everything is usually Midwest / east coast. Everett is about a 4 hour drive, feels doable.
I'm debating right now. Allegedly it's less than a 4 hr drive for me too but I don't trust Google Maps because I know it takes more than 2 hours to get from where I am to Olympia and I really don't trust Google Maps that it's only about 90 minutes from Olympia through Tacoma & Seattle to Everett, lol. But, this is ohhhhh so tempting. Of course, I will wait until the GP assignments come out to make any final decisions.

Wow, am so surprised about Everett again! I didn’t expect that. It is so much better than Kent.

But it’s really too bad that the express bus from Everett to Seattle has had its schedule curtailed. I used to take Amtrak or Bolt Bus to Everett and hop on the 510, so I didn’t have to backtrack.

2 hours on public transit isn't what I'd call an easy trip. Or a 55-min Uber ride for $130 that i just checked (an Uber from Dulles to Baltimore was $95 and 90 min, for comparison). Google Flights usually shows the Basic Economy fares. Regular economy from my airport is $500+. Only nonstop option is Alaska and all the others are 8-9 hours of travel total. The flight home would have to be a red eye or take all day, and since Everett is so far from Seattle, early morning flights home aren't an option.

I didn't go to LP last year, even though I am on the East Coast, due to the logistics. Given the nonstop snow that weekend in LP, I made the right decision.

I've never been to Seattle before so a trip there could be fun, but when you consider the reality of being an hour away, in the burbs, it's not so much fun.

But Kent was practically next door to the airport which made it so much better. Makes a huge difference for those who have to fly across the country and then drive another hour.

Folks, don't forget to check Alaska Airlines (and, by extension, American Airlines) for flights into PAE as well for Everett. Starting in June they'll fly PDX-PAE, which also means you might be able to connect through PDX to get there (though with 10:52 PT departure that could be quite limited). They also fly HNL (anyone here in the Pacific?), LAS, PHX, SAN, SNA, LAX, and SFO nonstop and you may be able to get connections through one of those possibly (esp through PHX with an AA ticket).

For the cool price of $780 with two stops and 16 hours of travel I can fly into PAE lol. I'll pass!

If you’re renting a car, sure. By bus from where I lived in Seattle, it was nearly two hours, and that was during the week when I had jury duty not far from the arena. For Kent SA, I was lucky that I could meet up by the airport to drive to the arena, and it still took over 1.5 hours to get thete, even with the last leg on light rail.

But there are other options from the airport to Everett. Amtrak, for example, runs buses from Seattle to Vancouver BC from King Street Station, which is 4-5 blocks (flat plus elevator) from a light rail station that stops at SeaTac. There may be other buses that are still left after 20-22 that do the airport connection routes between Bellingham and SeaTac.

I wouldn’t spend that kind of money for just Skate America unless I had it to burn, but many people I know who came to Kent or past Everett SA’s and stayed. They didn’t have cars, but took a bus or multi-person uber, started with a hotel in Kent or Everett, and then took a bus to Seattle and stayed there, taking light rail back to the airport.

Also, if fares are more affordable to fly into Vancouver, BC, there are buses and trains to Everett from there. One bus might even still do a YVR airport stop before heading south.

If by some miracle Skate Canada is back-to-back to SA and is in Vancouver or Victoria, that might make the trip worthwhile.

For people spending extra time in the area, Everett is interesting in itself, and there are nice places to visit within a decent car ride. There’s also Vancouver BC, a few hours from Everett via Amtrak.

The hotel I stayed at in Kent also offered is guests free shuttle rides from the rail station and also to the shopping center across the street from the arena. It was great.

I checked flights for the hell of it and yeah, 8-10 hours just flight time from DC, mostly through LAX. In ten hours I can get to Lausanne, and if we are going from Israel it’s four hours. Easy decision.
