2026 Olys Womens FS PBP - Missed Full of Horrors

No one can say Amber is not consistent.

Yet another 214 point total. I think 212 is her other magic number.

Three time national champion.

Gold medal at last year’s challenger, gold medal at this year’s challenger.

Two Golds at last year’s Grand Prix and also the final champion, a gold and a silver at this year’s Grand Prix.

Fifth place at worlds, fifth place in Olympics.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Feeling slightly less bad for Kaori now that the protocols are up. ! calls for both of Liu's flips, but no call whatsoever for Kaori's blatant flutz with straight +3s. SMDH. I think I'd have lost my mind if Sakamoto won the Olympics due to a non-call on her flutz, while others got called.

The callers and the judges were trying to give it to her, but the +REP penalty can't be gamed. Thank goodness.

I haven't done the math :COP:, but would doing 3F+2T instead of 3Lz+2T at the beginning have been enough? Is the margin greater than the +REP penalty?

I don't think just adding a +2T to the triple loop would've been enough. (ETA, I see you pointed out she had already done two.)
5.83 base value for second half, she ended up with 4.08 for the +REP. So just about the amount she needed.

So Kaori ends up with a bronze and 3 silvers in her Olympic career. That's pretty fantastic. Obviously not what she hoped for but hopefully she will still be proud.

9th in the FS sounded awful but it's only just over a point off 5th in the free, the scores were really close outside the top few.

And Amber was very close to 2nd in the FS. :respec:

Well that was my favorite competition of the 4 disciplines :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

And all my favorites had great skates, my highlights were Alysa and Amber  , but really a great job from most skaters today!
It was definitely the most well skated event of the figure skating program. So many many good performances. Skaters who can be proud of their performances and did their best when it mattered most.

And it would have probably been better for Kaori if they called the flutz. She would still be 2nd but not so close to 1st that it feels like she just barely missed it.
