2026 Olys Pairs FS PBP - Are We Not Entertained?

They haven't gotten to top 6 yet, so maybe my dream of a mysterious new #2 Georgian pair of Kostornadze and Kunitsidze isn't dead after all
Well, they are back on the ice, albeit she's not as progressed post-baby as Trusova, but Sasha is a machine. But, Kosto's progression as a pair girl is remarkable. And, she hasn't competed for a year so technically she could ask to switch to somewhere. They did get as high as 8.

Jordan Cowan from On Ice Perspectives!
Has probably been posted before, but he really is doing such a great job.

Great event. Not sure why the strawberry shortcake eaters are saying that Elvis would have done better. 😉

It matters because A) rules matter, and B) you never know what it did to H/V to hear that score when it should have been ~2.5 points lower. Even with their SP lead, they would have had to skate ~2 points above their personal best. Had it been ~2.5 lower, they would have simply needed their personal best.
Did they even hear the score? I think the argument that rules should be followed is a better argument.

We always congratulate the skaters, but the coaches deserve a congratulations as well. I'm happy that Pavel Sliusarenko got a team to the Olympics with a silver medal. I learned my lesson about putting too much hope in junior skaters when his team of Panfilova/Rylov didn't make it to seniors due to injury. I'd already hung an OGM around her neck, but it was not to be. So, happy for him and all the coaches who put in the hard work.

I don't have a problem with the results. I do think the Georgians programs are terrible, but it's not as if they're not in very good company in that regard. The top 5 here all have really bland free skates. And MiuKih & MiNiki are the only ones of the top 5 with a SP worth remembering in a year let along ten years.

I hope MiNiki stick around and find a way to show some personality on the ice that isn't just very vanilla & sedate. What I wouldn't give for even one of these teams to show us some signs of life the way the young Swiss team does.

What an amazing free skate tonight from Miura/Kihara!! Truly an Olympic performance. Wonderful to see them skate like that.

I'm also very happy for Chan/Howe, who completely justified their selection for this team by putting out their best overall performance in years and being the top U.S. team here. So pleased for them! Their scores here were just shy of the personal-bests they set in the 2022-23 season, before his surgery. :cheer2:

I took it to mean Russians (strawberry shortcake eaters) and the Russian pair that skate to Elvis.
 I get it now. I think. I haven't followed Russian skating since they were banned but I am guessing there is a team that wasn't cleared to compete here that is skating to Elvis?

Yes, but CBC just said her mum is Armenian, so at least there's not zero connection.
Both her father and mother are Armenian.
Did the Rus-Armenians take a few years off from competing from 2022-2025?
Yes. She was injured for a few seasons and it took them a while to get the release from Russia.
Maybe A/R have been skating to Slumdog Millionaire because they can't hear the music so they don't even know it's the same program?
They had to change their music to remixes while already in Milan/Bellinzona (hence the elevator music in the opening part of the program) because of music rights. Only remixes were available in the ClickNClear database.

Venue replay wouldn't let me see the first group - I hope Deanna and Maxim are happy with their FS and it feels a bit redemptive (looks like no falls)

I know the skate gods were not in the mood to grant the impossible (a clean 4th program from Ellie Kam in less than 2 weeks), but still proud of how they did this Olympics.

Am I supposed to hate Sui/Han's FS? Because I didn't.

Crushed for Pereira & Trennnnt for not being able to capitalize on the SP. I didn't expect them to medal but was hoping they'd have a clean skate.

Hungarians! :cheer2:

The first half of the Georgians' program was so fab.

Also gutted for Hase/Volodin :fragile: Love the program.

Miura/Kihara!! :cheer2: :cheer: Kihara sobbing and Miura getting swept up by Volodin - so many emotions!~

On to Women!

Wow, what a great event to watch! :) In case the final results have not yet been posted...

Well, I'll admit I forgot to breathe during Miura/Kihara's skate. That was brilliant. Exquisite. Just completely in their own league. Damn!

I misheard commentator Narumi Takahashi's "Shinjiatteiru (M/K have faith in each other)" to "Shinjatteru (they are dead)" LOL

Kaori Sakamoto leaving the arena after in tears after giving them a hug (she had to leave due to other commitments?).

Lovely K&C reactions. Miura taking a moment to let it all sink in while Kihara trying to make her believe that they had won the gold. Hase waiting for M/K to have their moment and then hugging them. Hase bowing again and again in Japanese style to Miura (and she, bowing back). Then, Volodin catching up with the group hug.
Metelkina/Berulava joining the love.
Another rare moment with all the happy medalists.

Miura/Kihara post comp interview:
Miura: It's like a dream. It hasn't really sunk in. All I can say now, is that after yesterday's mistake, we were able to rebuild and come out stronger than ever.

Kihara: (on what he did after the SP) (takes a moment) I cried.

Miura: (laughing) Rryuichi-kun kept sobbing all day! Our roles had reversed. Before, I was the one who was crying and Ryuichi-kun was the one to console me. But yesterday, I had to be the big sister and support/console him.

Kihara : Yes, before this, I was the one to be the strong one and console her. But this time she supported me and I told myself I just can't give up.

Miura: I am so thankful that fate had us to team up.

Kihara: I was going to retire.... and a miracle happened. I was given a chance to pair with Riku. My 4th Olympics. I want to thank all the people that supported me. And I have the respect to all the Japanese pairs skaters who paved the way to the Olympics. Thank you.

I am sure she has other things to do at this point in her life but I sure enjoyed the commentary of Sandra Bezic on Gem for the pairs. I came away educated.
Yes, she was great. Carol Lane was driving me up the wall, glad she wasn't here today.

(I'm Canadian this week, since the BBC decided to skip to curling half way through the men's SP and lost my trust forever.)

Sandra Bezic sounds less snotty than she did in her US commentating days, but her voice is still very low-energy and monotone.
