OAS ("Obscure" 4CC skaters) news & articles

The decision by Yu-Hsiang LI (TPE - he, also known as Jordan, turned 18 last month https://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00111196.htm) to move up to Senior this season seems to be paying off as he won the gold medal at Santa Claus Cup in Budapest this past weekend! :)
He has exceeded the 104 CTES for Worlds in Boston :) - 110.16 (37.74 at Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy in Sept. 2024 + 72.42 at Santa Claus Cup). He is in Zagreb this week for Golden Spin.

ETA that he actually won his first senior international gold last season (May 2024) at the Thailand Open FS Trophy in Bangkok: http://www.fsatresults.com/thaop2024/CAT001RS.htm

Isabella Gamez/A. Korovin's current CTES minimum score of 81.10 is still short of the 88 required for 2025 Worlds but Korovin's Philippine citizenship looks almost certain now (Dec. 3, 2024):
Rappler.com article (Dec. 4):
With the plenary voting 21 affirmative, 0 negative, and 0 abstentions in the third reading, the upper chamber will then transmit the bill for the signature of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Korovin, along with Filipino-American Isabella Gamez, were in the Senate to personally witness the passage of the legislative measure.
If Marcos does not veto the bill, Korovin will officially become a Filipino 15 days after the publication of the signed law in a major newspaper.
“The timing of this approval was strategically pursued to ensure the pair’s eligibility to compete at the upcoming Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China, this February 2025,” PHSU chief Nikki Cheng told Rappler.
“This is a historic opportunity, and we firmly believe that this talented duo has the potential to bring home the Philippines’ first-ever medal in the Asian Winter Games,” she added.

Ye Quan received his Korean citizenship :)

The Kazakhstan Figure Skating Union has a new website and IG account. Last year, the figure skating side of the Kazakhstan Skating Union split to form their own federation.

KSFC has the authority to manage and develop figure skating in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the exclusive right to represent the Republic of Kazakhstan in the International Skating Union (ISU).

On July 12, 2023, by the decision of the founders, figure skating in the country was separated from the Kazakhstan Skating Union into a separate federation.

KSFC is certified by the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan and officially recognized by the ISU.

Per this IG post, it looks like the Kazakhstan National Championships will be held this weekend (still looking for a results link).

Shaidorov announced on a now-expired IG reel that he's skipping the championships to recover from a minor injury.

The link to your embedded post above is broken now.

It's linked from the Results section of the new KAZ fed. website: https://figureskating.kz/CHRK2024/

I found the KAZ Nationals livestream for Dec. 14 (thanks to SkatingScores' results page for the Summer Championships that took place in mid-July in which Sofia Samodelkina debuted): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TUoV7vNhcs

Recent interview with Philippine's women's champ Maxine Bautista.
I understand from the interview that she will not be able to represent the Philippines at the Asian Winter Games because she is waiting for release from the US federation. Release is hopefully in July 2025 and she plans on competing in the September Olympic qualifier.
Since she's in her off-season now, she is working on upping her technical game.

Anyone know if Geynish/Chigirev will be going to the Asian Winter Games? I haven't seen an official entry list yet.

Thanks! Maxine had competed in USFS' National Qualifying Series this summer and qualified for Midwestern Sectionals (did not enter) before she competed at and won Philippine Nationals in the first week of November. Glad to hear she already has her PHI passport and hopefully she will receive her ISU Clearance Certificate by July 1, 2025 as expected.

Skye Chua to represent the Philippines in the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games (Jan. 5, 2025):
Sparkle star Skye Chua will be the sole representative of the Philippines in figure skating in the upcoming International University Sports Federation (FISU) Winter World University Games, which will be held from January 13 to 23 in Turin, Italy.
Skye, a University of the Philippines student and a Philippine National Figure Skating team member, recently received the Milo Grit Award at the 2024 Philippine National Figure Skating Championship. [...]
Aside from being an athlete, Skye is also one of GMA Network's Sparkle artists, appearing in the Philippines' first figure skating drama, Hearts on Ice, and the recently concluded historical drama series Pulang Araw.

Michelle Di Cicco (ISU bio: https://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00106809.htm) will represent the University of North Dakota and Argentina at the Winter University Games in Torino - her Dec. 7 post:

Gian-Quen Isaacs of South Africa achieved the minimum for Four Continents at the Diamond Cup.
She's been training at IceLab in Bergamo this season with Ondrej Hotarek: https://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00103298.htm
Isaacs' coach in South Africa, Megan Allely, competed internationally for RSA from 2001-2006: https://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00006067.htm
Isaacs is crowdfunding for 2025 4CC in Seoul, South Korea:

Mikhail Shaidorov has received a grant from the Kazakhstan Olympic Committee to support his training costs for this upcoming season!

Kind of a weird request-- no videos when he's 'on the ice' at all, including Nationals? I get it's an Olympic season and people want to keep things under wraps to an extent, but he's not even Olympic or World eligible

This reads as 'we want super good edits of every single thing said skater does and won't allow for anything less', and I wonder how many other skaters/teams will try to follow.

I have no idea why. But, could be a privacy issue. Many people opt out of groups photos, unauthorized photos. I have a friend who is not a skater who made me take down some snaps I posted while visiting him.

There's a reason given in the caption, so no. Not that.

This decision has been made to allow the team to deliver their best performance when fully ready. If anyone is found recording without permission, they will be asked to delete the footage immediately.

Asian Open FS Trophy entries are out! Looks like North Korea has decided to compete internationally this season...
