Clearly she does not look happy. I know the bubble environment that these skaters have to be in is tough for all of them but if she is still battling depression it may be even tougher for her. She looks like she just wants to get out of that environment...stat.
All Polina had to do was not have a time violation and she would have been 4th. That said, her TES total from SP + LP might not have hit the qualifying mark anyway. It’s too bad; I still enjoy her skating and her short program in particular.
Hmm so they counted the loop as a fall and not a step-out...is that a new rule that I missed?
She has wonderful jumps when she hits them but that first fall seemed to suck the life and the choreography out of the rest of the program
Yes, she was a little tight. However I would have given the 3-loop full credit and instead judged the *double* loop at the end of the combo as UR. I felt that there was a general inconsistency in UR's that were called or not called throughout the entire ladies event. I would have called...
True that she was quite sloppy, and her habit of being bent at the waist while skating seems to get worse when she’s not performing well. It’s hard to watch honestly. Her transitions are still the best in the field though.
I’m partial to Paul Wylie’s skating. He made every note of the music mean something, right down to the forward crossover. Hard to pick a video because there are so many good ones so I’ll just post one of him at Hershey Arena; a function that I attended.

Nashville also hosted US Nationals in 1997. It was back in the days when the championship ladies events were filled to capacity (17,000 or so). I believe the venue was Nashville Arena.
So sorry to see her have that performance, but she’s human and although she was teary-eyed she actually sported quite well. And Eteri actually showed some empathy!
I just watched her FP and I would have called the back ends of both the flip-toe and the 2a-3t clean. Only the lutz was very clearly UR. I would really like her to continue because I feel she could take her components to a new level. She may be very tired both mentally and physically but her...
She’s my favorite Russian lady, junior or senior. As much as we talk about the huge technical/jumping content that the Russian ladies have, another aspect of their skating that separates them from the rest is edge quality, and Alena is a prime example of this. She has beautiful edges and hence...
