2026 Worlds Womens SP PBP - The Unbearable Shiteness of e-ing

I don't know that Kaori actually regarded it as a crushing disappointment to get an Olympic silver medal. She seemed pretty happy on the podium.

Can we bring back pro skating pleeeeaaaaseeee? Just for Kaori? I feel like Japan should just make up some event that gives us the skaters we still want to see.

Mark’s talking about +5 on spins. My brother is my barometer of fair-weather, generic fans, and he only understands the jumps; everything else is fluff that must be done. But I love the fact that spins, chore and footwork count like they do now.

Nice job, women! Not necessarily exciting, but good skates!

WOW ... such close scores. The free skate should be EXCITING!! Well done, ladies. What a delightful way to spend an entire morning (for my time zone). :cheer2:

So, now we have almost 2 1/2 hours before the Pairs. Time to go for a long walk and get some stuff done. See you all later.

So now I'm going to just go with my idea and imagine Pro Japanese Nationals. Imagine:
Wakabi, Kaori, Aoki, Yukari Nakano (shut up, this is my fantasy and I'm still bitter she never went to the Olympics and I will never get over it), Asada, Miyahara, Akiko, Yuka Sato, Murakami, and special exhibition by Fumie, who first did Paint It Black orchestral and dueling swans Shizuka and Daisuke.

So besides Olga, Kurakova, Sauter, Lee, Karhunen, and Shin, is there anyone else I should go back and watch from groups 1-4?

Random thought that I feel needs to be addressed & better now than later:

Jia Shin. She really needs to finish her arm movement. Everything needs to be stretched further, held longer, and expressed out through her hand movement/choreography. It's all a bit short & leaves every movement with the same feeling. She's young. Someone should address it now.

I loved the pro comps, I would much rather pay for a ticket for a competition like that than stars on ice.

Well that was satisfying. I am especially thrilled for Nina. I find her captivating on ice. I am so glad Kaori and Mone are happy. And well done Isabeau with upping the technical content. I guess Sofia gets downgraded on her footwork? But I truly enjoy her joy on the ice. To me she is much like Alysa in that way. Great job ladies.

Had to miss the last two groups and there’s no replay up!

I’m actually rooting for Isabeau to get the designated American medal. She was underscored and overlooked in Milan, and at 8 years younger than Amber, she’s a big part of the future.

10/10 would watch. I always liked Nakano too.

Looking at the Golden Skate interviews as they go scrolling through my feed. Katya Kurakova was injured, Lara had back pain, Amber was sick ... the skaters go through so much just to make it to a post-Olympics Worlds, I feel like they should all get medals.

ETA: Oh, and Julia had a panic attack before the short -- that's why she was crying. But in her interview she was really happy she could fight and make it to the free.

No ! or e calls for Sakamoto or Chiba; ridiculous. They're each getting several points of GOE from these non-calls. +4s are ridiculous. They should be at 0 or -1, or at most one GOE integer higher than Levito, who did receive an edge warning for a takeoff edge that was no worse.
Yes I have no problem with them leading but the GOE on those jumps in particular are LOL and will always be LOL

Wow, did Amber get hosed on PCS, that low behind the others all of a sudden?
I know we circle this a lot but Amber doesn’t really excel in any of the PCS like the Japanese skaters do. She skates quite slow and careful, and you can really see it in her step sequence approach. Composition of program is super light also, starting with that 10 second back edge waiting to go into the 3A.

Mone Chiba’s skating skills are out of this world. Seriously. She can fly around the rink after the most simple turn. And her composition of program is much, much higher.
